Yan Diomande (Winger) RB Leipzig

Been rumoured for at least the majority of last season.

Im sure weve all seen the interview clip where he says he wants to play here

Ornstein is now saying we’ve made contact so figure its time for his own thread

Most estimates on the fee put it in 100+ category

Is he worth it? I haven’t seen nor heard much from that lad.

That fee though. Fuckin hell.

I could swear there was already a Diomande thread? Was I dreaming? Did the fabric of reality shift? Are we in the end times?

If he signs for us, absolutely. If he signs for PSG; he’ll never make it :rofl:

Truthfully, dont watch bundesliga to know, but hes very highly regarded. Hopefully theres substance to the optimism around his development :crossed_fingers:if he chooses us that is

He’s actually insane, so he’d fit right in.

I was wondering when our contact with them would be leaked. I believe we were trying to get this done before he plays for Côte d’Ivoire at the World Cup. If that’s true, this could be a very quick turnaround.

State of the market. 70 million would be too much.

Trouble is, he’s probably the most promising RW out there and given the lack of need from other teams for that position, i’d say we have a solid route to get him.

I cant see PSG offering big money when they have Doue and Barcola on their books.

He appears to have everything we need right now in a winger… pace, power, ability to beat a man, finishing, can play on both sides, etc. The fee is insane, but that is what it is. I hope we wrap this one up quickly.

I know nothing whatsoever about this bloke but what I do know is our track record of buying players from the Bundesliga is pretty fucking shite.

I like to keep things positive.

It’s more hit and miss to be fair, some gems, some donkeys. I think the whole Naby Keita thing scarred me.

Really? My memory of our recent Bundesliga lot is theyve largely at least done what we want of them

Wirtz (Jury out)
Ekitike (good first season before the horror injury, remains to be seenhow he comes back)
Endo (exactly what we bought him to be, no complaints)
Szobo (Brilliant)
Konate (Very Good, barring last season)
Matip (Great, injury prone)
Keita (Shit)
Bobby (Dazzler)
Kabak (Shit)

I’d even offer the mitigation in Naby’s case of injuries stemming from his over-use by the national team, issues he didn’t suffer from prior to joining us.

He played well when fit, at first anyway, eventually it seemed like the endless parade of injuries made it feel like diminishing returns each time he came back.

My off-the-cuff opinion is that wingers and strikers are easier to project than midfielders. Pace and shot ability are universal.

The thing that excites me about him is he scores goals. That’s a pretty “duh” observation, but a lot of young talented wingers with his skills never learn that just beating your defender cannot be the goal. You have to actually turn that in to your team scoring goals. See Grealish. He seems to have already figured that out and that is likely why he costs 10s of millions more than people were probably expecting a top wide forward prospect would cost.
