Yan Diomande (Winger) RB Leipzig

Because we were played by all involved in the potential transaction.

Because he’s only now made his preference known I reckon.

How come?

Are you saying that we bid for Diomande without hints/encouragement from his entourage about being interested?

You don’t know how it’s going to play out until you engage. This is a process and sometimes you’re going to find yourself engaged with a player who thinks someone else is a better fit for him.

Diomande and his entourage would have kept all options open, probably knowing their preference but if PSG didn’t/doesn’t materialise then we would have been a good option, although a good potential 2nd option

Well, we can’t fight oil money when it comes to throwing money around.

So much for all those claiming that it was just going through final terms on Discord, as if they know exactly what’s going on.

Never was convinced he is worth that price, great potential sure, but not at that price. Glad it would be over early in the window instead of letting it drag.

Bayern Space has posted this on Twitter :person_shrugging:

Inside the Red Bull football group, and particularly at RB Leipzig, there is a growing conviction that Yan Diomande’s camp used Liverpool’s genuine interest as leverage to accelerate Paris Saint-Germain’s pursuit. Personal terms with Liverpool were indeed agreed, which subsequently led to an official approach to RB Leipzig, something that, as virtually everyone within the industry knows, does not happen without a prior agreement with the player. The prevailing belief today is that this sequence of events was designed to increase pressure on PSG to step up their efforts and move more decisively, which has now happened, while Liverpool have already moved on in recent days and shifted their focus towards other elite targets.

It is worth noting that a growing number of senior figures across the European game privately point to the player’s representatives at Roc Nation Sports, the US-based agency handling Diomande, believing the negotiations were conducted with little regard for the long-established customs, discretion and unwritten code that have traditionally governed elite European football transfers, with several figures remarking that the approach felt more akin to an American franchise-style negotiation than the relationship-driven culture of Europe’s elite game, leaving many within RB Leipzig, Liverpool and wider industry circles privately describing the entire episode as an unnecessary circus that, in their view, eroded professionalism and trust.

Sod it

If he’s off to PSG, get Barcola and William Gomes from Porto for the same money as Diomande, and don’t worry about our wide positions for the next five years.

If that is true about Diomande’s agency, they’ll find themselves burning bridges pretty fast but oh well, not our problem. I’m happy it’s over with early enough in the summer.

I’m sad as I think he is going to become a world class player, and he would have been an excellent Salah replacement. Still, plenty more fish in the sea.

I understand the appeal of Paris as a destination for a French speaking young talent. And PSG will win the league and be at the sharp end of the CL for the foreseeable. No hard feelings here.

Onwards and upwards. I can’t wait to see how Iraola shapes it.

The agency is taking the approach of North American car sales method after Covid?

As soon as the owner of PSG is involved in this rumour you know his propaganda machine will b e at it with full force. As I said before when someone like Diomande is silent, we can make him say whatever we want right.

I don’t care. Had a crack well done LFC.

You can’t blame a forward for wanting be in a side that wins every game in the League and he can help himself to goals. Stiff competition though. Barcola surely leaves how many forwards do this mob want. Maybe that was always the strategy make PSG pay heaps so we prise Barcola for less.

Move on plenty of other options.

Glad about it really. The price is way too high for a player with so little experience.

He is potentially a good player, but for the money involved, not fussed that he wants PSG,Go for it ,Yan,we move on, not a rusted on fan of Barcola,we do need more than one player so we see what comes up next!

The stats from 1 season and the glowing reports, he sounded perfect.

However, the one game I saw versus Germany, he didn’t strike me as a 100m plus player, but that was one game and everyone can have a bad game.

Onwards, there is always more fish in the sea.
