Yan Diomande (Winger) RB Leipzig

Kinda glad this isn’t going through. The one I wanted us to get from the bundesliga is Said El-Mala. Less than half the price, similar G/A output but seemingly better finisher. The only caveat is that he predominantly plays on the left where we have many numbers, however I think Rio can be the answer to our right wing problem as he showed with his motm performance for England in that position.

Was thinking about this today on way to work.

People were comparing him to Mane but we bought Mane for £35m and he had proved he could do it at the level LFC require after being in an average Southampton side.

To pay €100m for “potential” is a big risk. We bought big last summer in Wirtz and Isak and although decent enough they haven’t set the world alight (yet) and may never do you just don’t know.

Id rather for that kind of money (and i know its not my money) we bought 2 proven players.

So lets not let our head fall off about this. Let Oil Money FC take the risk.

He’s clearly a quality player and exactly what we needed. But hopefully we can make up for it in the aggregate by getting 2-3 good players for the money

Been saying it all along.

Felt really fishy to me the whole PSG waiting in the background thing. It was never a ‘PSG interested’. They knew he wanted them and they were just waiting to get the all clear.

Stupid amount of money too for him. Clearly a good player but I really don’t want to be spending that kind of money unless it’s for an absolute world beater

Plus, he wants to sit on the bench for PSG over a guarenteed RW spot with us. NEXT

When one door closes, another one opens. Maybe this is the beginning of the Joshua Abe era.

Interesting that the comments made earlier were about not wanting to sell till next year. In hindsight I wonder if a quiet word was already exchanged between RB and PSG at the highest levels that PSG would come in next year. Liverpool tried to apply the squeeze and force PSG to act earlier than their optimal plan.

A similar story to Ekitike maybe - just that we are Newcastle this time round…

Lock this up!

Yeah, I can’t escape the feeling that this one is rather a bullet dodged than anything else. We’ll see, he’ll maybe make me eat my words with a hat-trick at Anfield next time we meet them in the CL, but I felt uneasy about splurging that much money on a youngster with a relatively poor experience level. The same kind of uneasiness I felt with the Wirtz and Isak moves last summer. No player is worth that much money. As we have seen, it puts a pressure on the player and on the club which isn’t sane at all.

Same here, the only difference was that I didn’t feel uneasy about the Wirtz move.

Well, not the move in itself, but the transfer fee? Insane.

I do agree, I wasn’t aware last year was his break out season and he had been touted around prior with no take up.

I think his World Cup games have sort of demonstrated that as well. Like Isak has proven at two clubs he is a quality act, Wirtz has proven at one and won a league title.

I would say they were on the high end. This is just a bit silly and hopefully it benefits us in the long run.

If the club spent that kind of money on a one season stat, I would still support as a fan but personally consider it reckless. Similarly to Wirtz and Isak but at least these 2 had consistent track records to back taking a risk but Yan? No. He is worth 50-60 at best even in current market and if RB gets double that, good for them but the payer won’t be us, and hopefully not us.

We just had to as ourselves whether he was as good as Mane of Southampton and Salah at Roma just before we bought them. Maybe but definitely not better.

You’d still probably get them both for around 50-60m

precisely, I think even with current market prices, Salah and Mane at their previous clubs would be worth 50-60 each at most. Yan is not doubly better than them at that stage

Mbaye should be on our radar if PSG get Diomande in. Hard to see how he gets a huge amount of opportunities next season with the sheer amount of talent ahead of him.

It’s been publicly brought up in recent news that the agency has been using the whole thing as a puppet show to get what THEY want. Whilst the player does have a preference for PSG, I still think he would have been happy to come to us.

Agency knew full well we wouldn’t have lined their pockets like PSG now have done.

Not sure how this links to my post but may be I missed something.

Thank goodness the saga is finally over - feels like it has gone on for ever, at least a month.

I heard the deal fell over when RBL asked us to stock their vending machine with soda for a year.
