He could score more. But I suppose that will come with time.
Plus he can improve on his defensive actions
Well that’s qualify..,
We need the quality to qualify ![]()
That seems high, especially looking our historic spending before last summer. Not impossible but I certainly would be eye opening on top of £450m a year ago.
But even if we take that as a ballpark, £100m on Diomande plus the £50m on Jacquet I’m assuming is counted as this windows spending for accounting perspective too, puts a big old dent in that.
And then sales wise I really don’t have a clue about who might go or how much we’d get for anyone. But pretty much anyone raising us any decent funds would need replacing. Maybe you get away Chiesa and Elliot going without direct replacements needing to be bought but I’d be amazed if we got £40m for the pair after anonymous seasons.
Wage bill has obviously had a bit of freeing up but if we want at least one more defender, a proper six and at least two forwards but ideally three that’s a lot of footballers for £140m.
I think Iraola will have a look at Gomez, Jacquet, Leoni and the three very young CBs we signed in January and then we’ll decide if we need another CB.
We need two wingers and a central (defensive) midfielder - that’s the priority.
If Macca or Curtis leaves we need another midfielder.
We’ll be fine on spending. We reported an £8m profit last season despite a net transfer spend of £250m (which is of course amortized over 5 years so will continue to be £50m on the books annually).
So far we have also removed £35m in wages which was our largest expenditure. We could probably spend £250m in transfers, £20m in wages comfortably.
I´d argue central midfielder non-defensive too.
Just as much

I was thinking more RB than CB but wouldn’t hurt if we could find someone who could do a bit of both.
Up top we’re essentially counting Ekitike out for the year so unless Danns, Koumas or Wright can step up then our forward options next year would be Isak, Gakpo, Rio and 2x newbies. I feel that’s one short considering Rio is a teen and Isak is not exactly robust.
I just want to start the season without feeling like we’re one player short somewhere. That always seems to be the way and it’s that spot that we get a big injury early on.
I do not think 250M is sufficient to fill the needs we have. Adding two wingers and a CM will have us approaching that number on their own. We’re also in need of another CB, a RB, and possibly a short term striker. And we might end up needing more depending on sales - moving Macca and Jones, for example, would necessitate adding another pair of CMs, in all likelihood.
Szobo. Mate…daft opinion.
You know what they say about opinions…
That’s just how I see it. He’s got loads of energy, takes a good set piece but in general play he’s average…not particularly creative, doesn’t score enough and not great defensively.
Last season he was also one of those most culpable for slowing our attacks down. You could argue that was on Slot’s instruction, we’ll never know.
In the future when people discuss our best ever MF’s over the last 40-50 years he wont make the conversation.
Probably right.
I´d argue CM AND DM.
I´d also argue you could sell 2 or even 3 of our midfielderss now to raise funds and rely on somebody like Morton for depth.
Ultimately we are not going to do this and have a very good first team AND a very good amount of depth. We have left ourselves too much to do. It´s one or the other. We either get a very good first team and rely on youth for depth, or we get a decent first team and decent depth.
I think he´s better than average but I agree with you. he´s overrated by our fans because of some good moments.
But in general he doesn´t create anything, he can´t sit and protect the back four, and he can´t be the guy who gets on the ball and runs the show.
A bit of a jack of all trades with some fancy moments.
Time to say ‘Thank You Arne for fucking up the squad’ and accept that maybe it’s not possible to fix it all with transfers this summer.
I like the idea of wingers being good on both feet, then they can go inside or outside, defenders then don’t have the option of showing them in one direction or forcing them into a congested area!
He is very pro active and his defensive numbers for a forward are excellent.

I think it’s probably a multi-window project to get the squad where Iraola wants/needs it and there may have to be a bit of imagination used. If Elliott is reintegrated as the alternate RW then that gives 4 wide options before we sign a winger (eg Diomande). That should be enough for there. Gakpo will likely have to cover the frontline for the first half of the season.
I’d prefer to see two CMs come in rather than 2 wingers just because I see 433 as our likeliest formation and I think we will need heavy rotation in that engine room.
RB can be covered between Frimpong and Gomez until we have a better timeline on Bradley (officially the last we heard was that he was doing gym work and making progress but I know there are other rumors).
CB is a must for me as we need 4 options there including Leoni. I don’t want to enter a season with just 3 CBs two of them U21s.
I think we just go and secure our primary targets - lets say for example Diomande, Wharton and Van Hecke. Then sell the likes of Endo and Chiesa while we try and find some options that represent decent market value.

Low price was obviously as a consideration but the fact we were still after Dumfries this window suggests another RB may be on the club’s wishlist.
I do prefer the option of Schlotterbeck over Van Hecke, just because he is left footed and can cover Virg both short and long term.
I think it is time we looked for a potential successor.
Hey, would be nice to stick to Diomande here, there’s plenty of space to discuss the future squad.
I can’t understand why many want to get rid of a load of players when Iraola’s style involves intensity from the players and requires subs to come on to carry on that intensity.
We need to add to the pool rather than take away, this includes adding 1st team starters, but we need better strength in depth and as Sweeting says this could be players that have been previously ‘cold shouldered’
