Minteh’s dribbling and chance creation numbers are both better than Mané’s were before he joined us. I get your point. I don’t think Minteh is on Salah’s level, or even likely to reach it, but he’s the kind of signing I like: a player with the tools to become elite (not currently elite) and the right mentality every time he steps on the pitch. Klopp era kind of signing.
Top post, I’d add:
Given that we have Isak and Ekitike who cost over 200 million combined I’d hope that some of the attacking burden we put on Salah goes onto them.
We don’t need another Salah. Its a different squad and a different manager. We need whatever works for this new unit and if the club think Minteh is the man to do it then I’m excited to see what he does in a Liverpool shirt
I don´t think so. I mean, here is a video of him against the big teams. Very little ball maipulation. A lot of the time he ends up going back. The vast majority of times he gets past them he kicks and rushes around the outside, like against Frimpong, Konate and Dalot
One, bit of footwork in the box as Cucurella dived in. He does put a reasonable cross in.
Every time you see data on RW options there are bugger all that show up well in goals scored and assist stats that are attainable and who have played in the top 5 leagues.
Minteh does have good stas in some areas.
I am one that would prefer a punt on someone like Osario, but that is only off youtube clips and not the required 10 games
Does he? 3 goals and 4 assists last year. I think his dribbles isn´t that high either, though i don´t trust the stat on that tbh.
Well, in teams that consistently win things, you need your attackers to be top quality on the ball. Otherwise every top team would have work horses who cant hit a barn door.
I think it’s the main reason we’ll end up letting Gakpo go. He just doesn’t seem like a natural fit for the system. It’s also why I’m a little worried about Rio long-term under Iraola, but Rio still has plenty of time to develop that side of his game.

amen!!
Agree, I’m pretty sure that was the idea, moving the focus of the attack to those two players, and then fill in around them. Now, Barcola is arguably more in the category of becoming a main guy. But I think mainly it’s about finding the wingers who complement Isak and Wirtz i.e. players who will make the off-ball runs in behind, and also can feed Isak. We’re not looking for a direct Salah replacement to come in as the main goalscorer and the focal point.
What’s the Gambian Paul Joyce saying?
Not touching that one with a barge pole, happy to have some fun with French and Scottish stereotypical outfits but you’ll have to imagine Gambian Paul Joyce yourself ![]()
I didn´t mention goals or assist stats until the post below yours. I don´t care that much about raw numbers. But yes Minteh doesn´t have good numbers. I was looking at Di Maria´s stats yesterday. He got like 5 G and A in 35 games at Benfica and then 30 in 50 the next season. Numbers can explode perhaps and we are talking about potential rather than finished articles.
I mentioned Endrick and Ez Abde who have decent numbers though.
Theres no need to imagine, he’s real and our Joyce has already credited him with breaking the news of the second bid. All hail Gambian Joyce.
French Joyce is shit. This is my attitude towards French Joyce now:

*until French Joyce says we’ve bought Barcola
Possibly but different times and teams. I am not sure Minteh can be elite but he is a likely 7/10 wide player. I wouldn´t sign him but he´d probably be our best actual winger if we did.
I think Mane worked especially because we had Firmino who was more creative so Mane could go score.
With Isak it is a bit different and we need both creativity and some goals. Minteh crosses well although his passing into the box isn´t that good. He would stretch teams a bit.

You’re right there. Raw goals and assists aren’t the best indicators, but you’re also spot on that Minteh isn’t much of a goal threat right now. The underlying numbers back that up. His ball carrying and chance creation, though, are impressive. Add in his defensive work, and I’d happily have him, but I understand the concern that he may not be at the level we ultimately require.
I do wonder how much of the finishing issue is down to the way Brighton played. His heat map shows he’s rarely in the box. Is that a Minteh problem, or is it tactical? He also doesn’t take many shots, but really none of Brighton’s wide players did last season. Hurzeler had them playing a much more conservative, defensive style than we’re used to seeing from Brighton in recent years.
Yeah he seems the type that stays pretty wide rather than bringing it into the box. It does mean he can stretch sides. I was wondering if he´d make runs behind full backs for Wirtz to slip in. It´s also what I meant with kick and rush. He carries the ball distances into space rather than dribbling players directly, in my view.
Well, with Isak, do we need him to score more than 7 or 8 goals a season, if he´s creating chances?
I think there is a place for a player that adds something other than goals. It´s one of my criticisms of Gakpo that he will score goals at the expense of Isak´s service.

Think you must have linked the wrong video there as there’s plenty of ball manipulation going on.
Obviously a guy with his pace is going to use it to his advantage when he has the space. No one had a problem with Salah and Mane doing that. No one has a problem with any winger doing that providing it’s not the only tool in their locker and even from that video you can see that’s not his only tool.
Feel free to point out the specific instances and compare them to how many times he kicks and runs.
He actually wasn´t that successful kicking and running. Both Konate and Frimpong were tough for him to get past that way.
Assuming your analysis of Iraola is correct, Minteh does not have elite anything. The pressing is something fans love to talk about, but all the best wingers in the world are with the ball first and foremost.
You’ve not met @ILLOK yet have you?..pretty sure iirc that he rated Minteh a while back, he’d probably disagree with this ( if it was him who rated him)

Bolded bit: This is a good point, I assume it’s a prerequisite for any winger who plays this season, be quite aggressive with the movement in behind when there’s an opportunity; basically as soon as Wirtz is facing the defence, off you go.
We’ve seen Munoz do it a lot, Barcola does it, Ngumoah probably has to learn it, doesn’t do it as instinctively, and I’ve no idea if Minteh does it or if it’s something he has to learn as well.
Nah, we all have eyes and it’s pretty clear.
You either have a very different definition of what’s meant by kick and rush football or you’re conflating dribbling with whatever your definition is.
Either way I’m comfortable saying your archetypal kick and rush type is Adama Traore and he’s a long way from being that one dimensional.
Didn´t think you would.
