£20m + Harvey (or Chiesa) seems like a fair deal for all parties, I mean we’re even giving them the option.

I’ve read through this but don’t see much of a consensus. Is he really that good to merit a last minute deal or is this a stop gap or panic we need players buy?
He’s never registered for me when watching Brighton so this is underwhelming (to me), but maybe I don’t get what he can offer. Mitoma stood out more as a productive winger for me.
Minus Barcola, the others with viable rumors also scream mediocraty to me.
I dont think you will ever get consensus. There is obviously concern that something happening this late in the window can be a reflection of us being aimless and just having a “fuck it lets have him” approach to filling a need. But there were some people here raising his name months ago as an interesting fall back option should the Diomande deal not go through. That at least suggests the interest is grounded in something you can easily point to.

And he was also repeatedly named by journalists as one of the backup options, if Liverpool couldn’t get Diomande.
Minteh, Fernandes-Pardo and Said El Mala. Can’t remember if there was another mentioned as well, maybe it was Barcola.
So it seems like anything but a panic buy. Just curious timing, leaving it this late.

And do you think that’s closer to being a representative situation or an outlier?

I think it´s demonstrably possible, be it a total waive or even half or some fraction of their remaining wages, either way representing a cost saving.
These players are never going to play and any cost saving is worth it.
They have to agree to it though.

Why would they not? If they can make more money overall and they are told they will never play here again.

Clearly it´s a viable possibility. It´s been done by our club this very year for another player. That´s all.

What a time to be alive!
I’d be happier with Minteh than Sarr. I think we will go back in for him and almost in the same movement Gakpo will be off to Man City.
Gakpo is a good player, and he is showing that again so far this season. But I do think we will have better balance if the four wingers are Barcola and Rio for the left, and Minteh and Munoz for the right, with a bit of flexibility thrown in as some can switch around a bit.
