Youth Transfers

Question ought to be - how are Sporting signing him if his age would preclude us from signing him? Does he have a Portuguese passport or is his family moving to Portugal purely coincidentally, of course, for reasons nothing whatsoever to do with football. Ahem.

So reading between the lines:

Rumour was we wanted this 17 year old, but can’t legally sign him, so we wanted him to spend a year at Sporting on loan.

Reality this 17 year old definitely cannot possibly be signed by us under any circumstances whatsoever but has gone (by pure coincidence) to Sporting, where we were rumoured to be sending him on loan.

Summer 2022 deal to purchase from Sporting incoming in T minus 11 months

I thought we couldn’t sign him because we left the EU, but Portugal is in the EU so can still sign 16 to 18 year olds?

Is Ghana also in the EEA?

No, but i’m not sure why that matters?

Because, for the exemption that applies for those aged 16 and 17, the transfer needs to be between two national associations both within the EEA (or the player must have an EEA passport).

That was not my understanding:

Under FIFA’s regulations, international transfers are only allowed if the player is over 18.

However, there is an exemption for the EU and the European Economic Area which allows players between the ages of 16-18 to move clubs providing they receive a sufficient standard of football training and academic teaching,

With the UK leaving the EU, Premier League clubs must, from January 1, wait until players are 18 or older before they are able to sign them.

To me that read EU clubs can sign overseas players, but UK clubs can not.

Then I hope that you don’t mind that I’ve corrected it?

Then either then entire thing is bullshit or nobody is bothered about the parents moving rule.

Either way, I don’t think we would have anything to do with this as we’ve been in trouble before for youth transfer.

Maybe chew on this part of what you posted.

Ghana isnt in the EU or EEA, so the next paragraph wouldn’t apply to this kid.

Yes I think we already covered that. Just the way it is worded above is ambiguous.

  1. International transfers only allowed for over 18s

then immediately :

  1. There is an exemption for EU/EEA (eg Portugal) which allows 16-18s to move clubs.

But not specifying here that it means only from EU country to another and not from overseas to EU which is what it implied it was talking about in the first instance.

Liverpool FC looking to send scouts to a Paide Linnameeskond game to observe 17-year-old Matrix Einer. Many clubs interested in Einer following a good campaign with Paide II. Compensation could be as high as €3M. @AlVeissSport

I’ve never heard of him but something tells me he should be much better than Matrix Zwei-er and Matrix Drei-er.

I deeply apologise to everyone, I’ll show myself out.

I’ve not even heard of the club he plays for!

When I first read it (too quickly and not careful enough), I thought it was the name of the player.

:joy:

The question is, is he on blue or red pills.

Why would we need to send scouts when we already have Lord Ragnor there?
