Alexander Isak (CF) Newcastle

Thats one serious injury to Mo or Gakpo away from been a season shafter.

A CF is probably the last of the preferences.

Nah we lose him in December. It starts the week before Christmas this year and ends mid Jan.

How is it. Goals win games.

We’ve just had a season previously where an injury to Virgil would derail everything. Point is it didn’t. You can’t account for pure bad luck sometimes.

Except Virg was signed at the start of the Jan window.

We are winning games. Whether it is with Chiesa with Bournemouth or Rio with Newcastle.

2020 shafted us or have you forgotten about that.

Rio has 7 minutes of first team football.

I’m fully alright with Liverpool finishing in the top 4 this season. Are you ?

Technically we haven’t bought a first choice and Maca has played well enough there on occasions to cover 95% of matches we play not to mention those two players I previously mentioned. The club has moved on from the idea of a set DM to players who have that in their remit. Of course Grav can also play further forward.

I think football has somewhat evolved, it was simply a must have for a decade but…we were the first team to do without.

Anyhow I must suggest we keep this to discussion about Isak.

Oké, thanks.

Who says we would if you can’t score goals.

Right, but that is very often a false choice and one the club is not being forced to make. There are far more examples where the alternative was someone still perfectly acceptable to us and so we moved on from our #1 target to the next person in line. The fewer options/worse the incumbent, the easier it is to justify dropping one more place on the priority list.

Graham has spoke about Robbo being third choice (dont remember the other two) They were really on the fence about him because of concerns over his ability to defend in a side that doesnt sit back, but the drop off to the next guy in line was far enough that they decided it was Robbo or no one at that point, but they had already dropped down several places on the list to make it to Robbo. We took the plunge because Moreno was the incumbent and Robbo was cheap so Klopp told them to roll the dice and he’d back himself to train him up on the defensive side.

Us having only 4 senior forwards, one of whom is Chiesa, backed up by only a 16 year old and a collection of midfielders who can maybe play more advanced, makes a pretty good argument that there is plenty room in between Isak and Nobody for us to improve our situation.

Served them well except for the times it hasn’t.

We’ve already had to write off 2 of the last 5 seasons because we left ourselves short at the back and in midfield. We had no choice but to overplay a few kids from the academy and as a result both their careers have gone tits up.

Now we risk similiar here, completing the set and leaving ourselves short up front and risk overplaying a 16 year old.

Scoring goals hasn’t been a problem for us. This season , with the limited data atleast. We’ll be fine.

He started at least one game last season.

Of the six forward options you list, Salah will have an AFCON gap and has history of not coming back from that tourney on form. Wirtz is an attacking midfielder and while I don’t doubt him at all, he still has to get up to speed with the Prem. Chiesa scored a lovely volley recently but based on his time at Liverpool overall, he has struggled to get fit enough to play much. Rio just scored a lovely winner at Newcastle, but as a kid he should not be relied upon for too much - we will see him play, of course, as his talent won’t be denied; but the minutes will be measured.

All I’m saying is there are too many question marks over the group as a whole, which is why I said we look short up front.

I expect us to sign Isak, but if that doesn’t happen, I would be surprised if we went into the season with the attacking options as is.

Just saying it’s not our foremost problem.

We need a CB and a DM more.

Bajcetic might or might not be able to get upto scratch after his injuries. But it is what it is.
