Alexander Isak (CF) Newcastle

It feels like the direction of travel is only going one way with this transfer. Howe’s comments to me suggest he’s resigned to losing him and will waste too much energy in attempting to stand in his way.

The news that Sesko might now be off to United obviously complicates things, we could do without that happening but that bodes well for my semi serious prediction that Newcastle will end up making a late move for Nunez as he’s probably going to end up being the best available option for them.

I think Nunez could be a menace there as a solo striker. Nunez plus 70M for Isak. Done and done.

No, I will not!

They could do much worse. A front three of Gordon, Nunez and Elanga is absolutely rapid and would scare the shit out of a lot of sides, to me that would appear to be a forward line that suits what Howe usually wants to do.

To be fair, I would enjoy Isak donning the red shirt of LFC. However, AWOL while under contract is a very fucked up thing to do to your employers. Who is not to say he does that to us while twerking for a move to the white cunts in Spain a few years down the road?

If a promise is broken, then put in an official transfer request.

What is an official transfer request? Does such a thing even exist in 2025, or did it exist ever? Does it have any legal implication?

Very ugly…

It goes both sides.

From all accounts , Newcastle reneged on the promise of a new contract for Isak. Instead of being stuck in newcastle with a very expensive transfer fee(which stops all but Saudi clubs from bidding for him), He’s trying to get to play with a competitive team for the biggest prizes in world football. He’s trying to drive down the price because that’s essentially the advice he’s been getting.

What good would a transfer request do at this stage ? Newcastle pricing him at 150m while reneging on prior promises doesn’t make a good look for the club and it also shows that they can’t be trusted. They can offer isak an improved contract but I suspect the money is just one bit of the whole picture. From whathas been said, There were also promises on increasing the quality of the squad and Newcastle’s transfer window has been nothing short of a disaster.

When a club like Newcastle has a top star, they have to make certain promises that ensures that he stays. Newcastle for various reasons (mostly linked to FFP) aren’t able to strengthen the squad sufficiently for him to stay.

It’s not a good thing for Isak but there’s little else he can do. He’s made up his mind to move from the club and is trying to force the club to decrease it’s valuation. At some point, Newcastle might decide that their 150m asking price is too much and then consider decreasing the price considering that they need to replace Isak. The longer they wait, the less chance they have of getting suitable replacements and the more likely it is that the likes of Red Bull with rinse them with the Sesko deal.

While there is no guarantee. A 6 year contract for Isak does in someway prevent him from leaving easily. He’s entering his peak as a footballer and Real Madrid aren’t lacking in attackers. There’s only one upgrade from us and that’s to Real Madrid. A movement to any other club is either a step down or a sideways step. We can easily tide over whatever interest the clubs do profess because he would be contracted to us all the way through to his early 30s.

Think it pertains to ‘loyalty’ bonuses etc due when a player leaves if they haven’t officially requested a transfer - ie it would increase the net return to Newcastle of any given transfer fee (or make them willing to accept a lower fee). I’m sure @kopstar or the like will be able to correct/add an addendum as required.

It does impact the loyalty bonus. Normally, if they submit this, they would lose the loyalty bonus. Gyokeres and his agent gave up £2m to make the Arsenal transfer happen.

So what’s the benefit for the player?

They get their desired move. On occasion, players have taken a pay cut to facilitate a move because they are so pissed off with their current situation.

Someone makes a living out of this at BBC?

Yeah, but there are a lot of ways for a player to force a move without an official transfer request - and it’s not as if any club is bound to accept an official transfer request, right?

Apparently so, might ask for a refund on my license fee. Somehow I find it unlikely we would ignore the likes of Mac and Szobo to shoe-horn Ekitike into midfield

Not offensive enough

Apparently, we need Joey Barton up front…
