Andrew Robertson (LB) to Atletico Madrid

I’ve seen quite a bit enough of Robbo getting beaten on the defensive side. Especially compared on his previous years where his pace would get him out of trouble.

Over the last two seasons , his decline has been pronounced.

I don’t like him leaving. But it is what it is.

And nope. Kostas’s recovery pace and his acceleration is much higher than robbo’s current.

And anyone claiming the otherwise is ignoring the obvious.

Robbo’s output has declined drastically.

I think I would trust the club on this one. Robbo does need his minutes managed, but if they think he has declined too far then it is in everyone’s interests to move him on.

Regardless of Robbo’s drop off, I don’t think that’s true.

It’s a shame, but I reckon Robbo’s seen the writing on the wall and doesn’t want to run his contract down sitting on the bench. He’s still good enough to start in a somewhat slower league, so Spain probably suits him. He’ll excel in that setup too, i reckon. Always had the right amount of shithouse about him.

Has been a wonderful player and owes us nothing. Got him for a relative pittance from Hull and he quickly rose to being one of the best LBs in the world for several seasons. Wish him all the best.

If he does go he will leave with the blessings of us all. Don’t think his tank is on a red warning light just yet, but his legs have clocked up thousands and thousands of miles and we have to be realistic and bring in fresh legs.

Andy Robertson (6 weeks ago): “I hope all you Liverpool fans can help me with making the same noise around a new contract as you did with Salah & Virgil. Maybe you (Jamie Carragher) can stop linking the club with other left-backs as well! Hopefully I can stay here for many years to come”

Guess we let him down

As much as I love the bloke the level of his game has dropped, vvd and Salah are still two of the best players on the planet. Robbo no longer is.

I hope he stays and is comfortable with a rotational role with Kerkez but I understand him wanting to be a guaranteed starter

Virgil and Mo both clearly have lots left in the tank to start 50+ games for the next season or two. Robbo clearly doesn’t. As I said, it’s a damn shame but this is the business. Sentiment lands you in the shit, as we have found out on many occasions, and as United are still finding out now.

Obviously it has to happen sometime but would be sad to see him go without a proper send off. What a player he’s been for us, and what a human being also

Still better than Kostas so wouldn’t be letting him go anywhere.

Maybe he’s been told he won’t be getting another contract and he’s keen to get tied into a new deal for the next 2-3 years before he has to go looking with another year in his legs.

Would be hugely disappointed with this.

I’d like to see Robbo stay for another season as he’ll get plenty of game time while Kerkez beds in over his first 12 months.
Firmino and Robbo have been my favourite players over these past 10 years so will be sad to see the end of that.
If he decides he’d like to take the opportunity to continue being a 1st choice LB, albeit at another club, then I wish him well and ask that if he has to make use of his return flight before the summer is over then can he give it to Julio Alvarez.

From Robbo’s perspective this is probably the only chance he’ll ever get to play for a team like Atletico. He may feel that he’s done it all at LFC and nows his chance to try something new. He’ll have a mate in the city and it could be more appealing than slowly being replaced by a younger guy.
I doubt money would be much of an issue at this stage.

Yes, I hope Doak gets a good look again in preseason, though not sure where he gets in this squad other than occasionally spelling Salah when he needs a rest (and Frimpong would be the more proven option even for that).

Salah arguably has his best season in a Liverpool shirt and VVD similarly hasn’t dropped off.

There lies the problem. End of the day there maybe more suitors for Robbo that Tsimikas. The latter can still cover Left back as can Gomez.

He is my favourite player and I would have liked him to stay so we could have Kerkez bed in but he deserves a chance to experience a new thing and not sit mostly on the bench.

If he thinks he can have a similar career at Atletico to Trippier a few years back, that must be tempting for him, for sure. Rather than staying and being phased out for Kerkez.

I’m far from relaxed yet when it comes to defence, but it’s only June and there’s plenty of time until September to see what our whole defence looks like.

A few months ago, I said that a scenario like both Robbo and Tsimi out is possible. Then after Kerkez in, it’s not impossible that we find a player who could cover both LCB and LB.

Since Virgil is our 1st CB option, the backup LCB on paper is realistically a 4th choice CB.

But maybe we keep Tsimi, who has a contract until 2027.

Let’s see also what Robbo wants to do and what would be the finances of this potential deal like.

This. If he announced his retirement from international football today, I’d hand him a new contract tomorrow. Sadly (from perspective of a Liverpool fan), that won’t happen and I don’t see how he can sustain it over the next three years or so.

Even taking his natural decline in context, his departure would still hurt on an emotional level. He’s been everything I wanted to see from a Liverpool player. High performance, low maintenance, infectious winning character, a motivator and a shithouse when he needed to be. I think he’ll also go down as one of the last great bargains of modern football.
