Absolutely. A week after we got Salah for £35m, Neymar went to PSG for 200m, doubling the world record, and causing carnage in the market. One of the fallout’s of this was that Roma had a bit of a sulk with us, because they thought they’d been diddled, and if they’d waited a couple of weeks they would have got £60-70m. The next summer they were briefing the price for Alisson was £90m to us because they felt we still owed them cash for Salah

Exactly.
Look at Bazoumana Traore for example. 20 years old. A season in Sweden, a season and a half in Germany. Less than 70 appearances in his career and he’s now a £40m player.
Even someone like Munoz only really has one full season under his belt and if it wasn’t for the release clause I bet the asking price would have been more than what we’ve paid.
The market is mad. Salah and Mane look relative bargains by today’s prices but both were big outlays at the time.

That might even be conservative.
We do need to consider that the market has exploded in part because Premier League revenues have doubled since we signed Sadio in 2016. When factoring in inflation (broadly) and the way wingers are being paid these days, a player of their age and capability are probably nearing 100M with add ons.

Well indeed.
Which in no way makes spending £100m on a footballer more palatable in the grand scheme of life but does point to a £100m or so being kind of the going rate for someone like Barcola now.
I’m going to ignore how much he is costing because of how insane the transfer market has gone this summer and instead focus on how well he compares to the other LW/RWs we were linked too. Out of the options once Diomande and Akliouche are removed, Barcola looks the best and Muñoz the next best.

IMO, Barcola is head and shoulders above Akliouche as a winger, not to mention younger, and better than Diomande right now. Remains to be seen how their careers pan out.
Think the money is mad, but it is what it is nowadays, and I’ll be very happy if Liverpool sign BB.

I’d put Barcola over Akliouche as well. I’m not sure I’d put Muñoz there yet but I do think Muñoz suits us better.

Just let me know when the white smoke rises; all this back-and-forth is simply nerve-wracking. I’ll try to gradually get used to the idea of actually signing him—after all, it’s not his fault he costs so much.

He’s primarily a left winger, playing 67% of his starts there.
He has played 20% at right wing.
So if we buy him, expect to see him mostly on the left.
