I doubt he’s even worth £35m due to a combination of factors - his contract is up in 2027, he effectively missed all of last season, lacks physical attributes like height, speed or strength, looks out of shape and it’s difficult to know what his actual position is or how good he is at senior level.
9 games in a season might do that but im struggling to see what makes barcola 100 million quid better than elliot.
They both have one thing in common. The bench
A player is ‘worth’ what someone is willing to pay, Barcola is wanted by a club and his current side don’t need/want to sell him. He has started for France at the world cup, started regularly in the league for PSG and won the champions league the last 2 years.
Nobody seems to particularly want Elliot, he hasn’t ever been a starter for LFC or when on loan at Villa and didn’t make the international squad.
Stats wise in the past three seasons Harvey has 9 goals and 12 assists at club level, Barcola has 35 goals and 28 assists.
Elliott has lost his way and is trying to get back. At his best in his career to date, he was a squad man and used a bit by Klopp. Since then he has been out of favor under Slot, and then had a bad experience at Villa. Circumstances have conspired against him so I won’t kick a man who is fighting to get back. Best of luck to Harvey Elliott.
Barcola is the best winger we can realistically sign this summer. Football is a game of opinions, so even if someone disputed that, at the worst, Barcola is among a tiny group who would be the very best we could sign on the wing this summer.
The price will smart a bit. Probably around the Isak number, let’s see. The market has moved on and we operate within it, so we can either engage, or not. We have a clear need, so we are pressing on and trying to get the deal done.
We should be shopping at all levels of the market, and I am thankful that we do just that. Let’s say we sign 100M+ Barcola. Great. We also signed 40M Munoz, who will likely show good value when he gets going with us. And at the other end the likes of Ndukwe and Ndiaye look like really good players who are emerging.
Anyway, it’s the Barcola thread. Hopefully we close this quickly, as I don’t like the thought of Arsenal lurking.
I get that but elliot being part of a liverpool side that won the prem doesnt put millions on or should it. Barcola wants to leave because hes not being played in big matches and only 2 years on his contract left. 140 million should get a world beater and if hes that good he should be showing it at 23
Yeah i cant argue with that. We basically have to pay or get left behind. Can you tell im a elliot fan ![]()
Don’t mind me, just going to check if Harvey Elliots mum happens to be called Doris …
Well he isn’t to us as we are looking at a bid around 100m
I really like Harvey Elliott too. My best guess is the path will close for him at Liverpool, which is a shame, but also understandable. While that is being resolved, I hope for the best for him.
That should be around the price we should pay on the back of what tha average price is now. Still smarts and it not my money.
Think we’ve managed to prepare that opening bid yet? Fingers crossed we’ve moved on to ‘preparing to submit openning bid’.
This seems to be the case more and more lately. I’d prefer at those times that we’d walk away.
Without being in the game, I wonder what goes into a bid? Presumably all sorts of details, besides the fee and the payment structure. And presumably various teams of lawyers poring over every detail, from all sides.
And that’s to say nothing of the discussions that must take place about the player, the alternates, the various prices of the possibilities, how they will be used, and how various moves fit together to support what the manager is trying to do.
My suspicion is once the first realistic bid goes in, the bulk of it is done. Then it’s just the final number to be sorted, and while that’s no small thing, and it could all break down over it, it would seem well on the way at that point.
Mmm, not sure about that. I think it needs some monitoring first. Preparing to monitor the possibility of submitting opening bid.
Other than that though, he’s alright.
Hence why Iraola in last night game, Rio was tried on the right wing.
Well other that, he’s alright though?
I feel some should map out the very granular tasks in this process flow…
Feels ripe for some kind of automation, simplification, or even AI augmentation to streamline it ![]()
