Hopefully. With Ramos and Lee already having left. I can see why PSG would want someone in before they let another forward go.
You’re right mate, didnt realise what thread I was in. I’ll post it in there.
You’d hope so but think I read somewhere he was the replacement for Lee Kang-In who moved to At. Madrid
AI can certainly do a lot of amazing things and also some rather sinister stuff but this? Not sure.
Our deal to bring Barcola on board can finally go ahead

We had a deal agreed with Guehi when the transfer fee was agreed, then Palace pulled the plug. That deal would have been cheaper compared to what City are paying him i assume. Regardless, we should have just put the extra couple of million down on the fee at that point.
Lets hope we dont fk about for weeks here.

Interesting. He´s highly rated and very tricky.
Might make sense too as he´d be more ready to take over from Kvara in a few years and maybe accept a bit less playing time right now.
Gakpo is an elite goalgetter the issue is that he doesn’t materially impact Liverpool’s build up with either physicality, creativity or speed. Barcola replaces Cody’s output, which is elite, but provides threat in transition, and the ability to consistently beat his man one on one.
This is probably a fairer reflection of Barcola’s productivity
Barcola G/A minutes
Lyon - every 111 minutes
PSG - every 113.4 minutes
G/A per 90
Lyon - 1,930 minutes / (5G / 9A) / 0.65 per 90
PSG - 5,333 minutes / (29G / 18A) / 0.79 per 90
The price of >£100m is for 3 years of measurable elite output + elite in possession impact. I also think he would be electric on the right.
People online had a lot of the same concerns last year with Hugo. A year on they look unfounded.
Not nonsense and an awesome name.
Well done ![]()
Good post.
I once called Gakpo ‘Huntelaar on the wing’.
He will get a solid amount of goals but the rest of your team will suffer for his lack of overall game. Isak for example
For me the issue with Barcola is that perhaps a very good winger is available for much less, in which case we would have more spare money to fix other big issues with our squad.
Would prefer a Wingerlaar on the hunt than a Huntelaar on the wing.
Sorry, think I’m still a bit drunk from last night.
Perfectly understandable
Looking at Iraola’s style of play , I’m just not sure we need another left winger. A RW yes , not a LW considering the options we have on the left. Bar and Rum Cola is a LW , atleast the majority of the games I’ve seen him.
I’d have felt far more comfortable if we were to get Khvara from PSG , atleast at the prices being touted for Barcola.
Iraola might even decide to stick with a 4-4-2 in which case Dominik as the right attacking midfielder and Wirtz as the left attacking midfielder makes more sense playing behind Isak and when he’s fit Ekitike.
We do need a striker though regardless of whether Gakpo stays or goes. I doubt Chiesa has a future here but it’s in his good interest to have a good preseason for us.
Mate, we’d all feel happy getting a £200m+ footballer for half that price, but it ain’t realistic.
Isak doesn’t lack in his overall game. He was brought in to be a goalscorer. And he does really well pressing from the front as well.
Gakpo was brought into be a versatile player who would be reliable , slot into various positions without being anything flashy. A modern day Dirk kuyt perhaps.
I can see the value of keeping Gakpo as a squad player. He will get plenty of minutes. But if someone is willing to stump up 70m , I would rather the club take the money and then invest into the squad.
I think somewhere we have lost the plot in our transfer dealings. Not saying that we didn’t do good transfers but the rate at which we go for the top players , starting with mbappe and then continuing to fail to land them.
I’d rather we make our team the way we did with Salah , Mane , Firmino (three rather unheralded signings who set the stage on fire) rather than chasing after players whose agents use our interest to get clubs with more pull and more money to gobble them up.
Doesn’t mean we don’t play that game well when it comes to dealing with a Newcastle for instance.
But not every expensive signing has to be a VVD or an Alisson , all or nothing player.
Ah no, I meant Isak will suffer, sorry.
That Gakpo won´t create much for him or make much space for him to exploit.
I´d do the same for that sort of fee.
