Caoimhin Kelleher (GK) Brentford

Love the local angle

I had 25M so it is a bit lighter than I expected. Maybe we were doing him a solid? He wanted to go there and be the clear number one, so rather than string it along and try to get a bidding war going (I expected a bit of that to be fair) it was all clear and decisive. He stayed last season when he was clear that he wanted to go, for his career. He has paid his dues, so maybe now we helped him with his move?

Another angle, a more convoluted one, is that perhaps this helps in the signing of Wirtz? Brentford goalie Flekken went to Leverkusen for a good price. They got their man for a sum before everyone in the world knew they had €150M Wirtz cash to spend. And/or, maybe we let Kelleher go to Brentford for a bit less, so Brentford let Flekken go to Bayer for a bit less, and it all helps grease the wheels for Wirtz?

Good luck to Kelleher. He had a very important role in us winning the league and he will be warmly welcomed when he comes back.

Hope he gets his testimonial

Mate. We got a ridiculous fuck all offer from forest.

8.5m plus some reserve goal keeper moving the other way round.

I’ve kept that amount as well.

I think a 30% sell on clause would work really well.

I think that everyone was. :man_shrugging:

I wonder how he feels…I hope he doesn’t feel let down by LFC …letting him go…after his heroics…

Absolutely delighted for Caoimhin. Going to a good, settled club with an excellent manager. It’s exactly the move he needs and deserves for the next step in his career.

I’ll follow with interest how he does there, but I’m quite sure that he’ll be a success, just as he has been for us: an absolute success story for the club, on all levels. Bring in a young talent for what, £30’00k? And sell him £18m after a long, successful spell with us, during which he almost never disappointed anyone. He had one or two wobbles of course, but honestly, no keeper in the world hasn’t. What a success for him, and for LFC as well! Scouting and developing at its very best!

A big hug to you, thank you and all the best Caoimhin! :+1:

He has publicly stated he wants more playing time:

Think a large part of who we’ve accepted offers from has to be with the fact that we don’t want to sell to our closest rivals.

I don’t think PSG need a new keeper. Donnarumma is no Kelleher but he’s decent enough…

12.5m plus add ons is very cheap for Kelleher imo however it’s 4d chess as it allows a Brentford player to go to Leverkusen for 10m.

We have already signed one from Leverkusen and are looking for another huge signing so it’s almost doing them a favour whilst keeping kellehers wants and needs in mind. He only had a year left on his contract which plays a big part too.

He will get to be a first choice keeper in the premier league ❤️.

Also does send a message to players that we potentially won’t stand in the way if they find themselves on the fringes.

And it never hurts to have a good relationship with a club like Brentford. They’re the perfect kind of club to pick up young lads who are going to get the game time to make it here whilst also being the kind of club who develop players and knows selling them on is part of their strategy.

Handy £60m odd quid they’ve given us in the past year.

Sad to see him go but he 100% deserves to be a first choice keeper somewhere. Wish him all the best.

Brentford getting a great deal for him too.

I don’t think he’ll be disappointed to have won a Premier League title where he played a decent part of.

Not many second goalkeeper can hope for that to happen.
