Yes, but the logical thing to assume is that we would have already strengthened and that Gakpo would have been made surplus to requirements. As things stand, weāve entered in negotiations to sell our best player so far to a bitter rival after he decided it, with zero guarantee that heāll be replaced by someone better.
If anything, with 3 days remaining in the window and the way weāve handled transfers so far, itās not unlikely that weāll manage to downgrade.
We shouldnāt be selling anyone to City. I guarantee this will come back to bite us on the arse. We play City in a few weeks as well.

It honestly feels a bit like weāve had some severe buyerās remorse after suddenly realising weāve agreed to pay Cody Gakpo Ā£250,000 a week lol.
Itās like that time I got pissed playing Champ Man at Uni years ago, and woke up in the morning to discover Iād blown our entire transfer budget on Robbie Savageā¦

I think the point is based in the way this has been talked about for quite a while this seems less him asking and us obliging, but us having worked to create the circumstances to allow this happen, and now weāre seemingly at the stick or twist stage of it

So going by the logic 2 years later we didnāt value Suarez when he asked to leave to Barcelona and we obliged.
I think the issue more with this is not regretting it like Diaz more the fact we wonāt have a solution for centre forward.

Iāll wait to see how the next three days play out before deciding how to feel about this one. I was fine with selling Diaz last year and I am fine with selling Gakpo this year, but only if there was a plan in place that made it make sense.
I defended selling Diaz last year because the rumors were that he wanted to leave, it was a lot of money, and I had faith in Slot/Hughes/Edwards that they wouldnāt have sold him if they didnāt have a plan to make it all work. Because of a variety of factors not worth rehashing in this thread, it didnāt work out like they hoped.
In a similar vein, selling Gakpo is not only defensible - but actually good - if that money is being reinvested in a better player who is a better fit for Iraola than Gakpo is. I want to back our manager with the best possible pieces for his system, and heāll know whether Cody is that.
But if we end up paying over the odds for Sarr out of desperation to replace Gakpo, Iāll be very, very skeptical.
