Does he strengthen City? No.
Do I care which club players leave for? No.
Do I care their reasoning for leaving? Not particuarly as it’s usually one or the other.
My only concern is LFC and how WE can improve. We already have a player on his way here, who wants to join, and is better than Gakpo in every metric (other than back post tap ins), the club therefore need to weigh up whether it’d rather keep an unhappy player as back up or take the £85m which we could use to sort our crappy midfield out.
One thing’s for certain, Hughes needs to get his arse in gear because time is running out.

The question is, will we sort out the midfield?
And our options being Barcola, Rio and Muñoz. Is that enough? I would suspect not, but I suppose we can always add one in January.
We’ve been sold the idea Gakpo doesn’t go unless we get a winger first (likely a RW) in, this is a non negotiatiable. I don’t particuarly rate Minteh but I think he or Munoz on one side and Barcola the other would work better for Iraola than what we have now.
Whether we address the midfield in the next 72 hours is yet to be seen, more likely not. In that case Nyoni has to feature more, and Endo too in comparison to last season.

I just think getting rid of Gakpo and getting in Minteh for not much less money is both a downgrade (especially as we have to wait 2 to 3 months for Minteh) and adding unnecessary risk as we try get some stability for Barcola to come in to and for Isak and Wirtz.
Does it not make sense to wait until January and re-evaluate who we can buy at RW? Unless we think now is the best time to get the best fee for Gakpo and/or we can´t get a midfielder now without Gakpo´s sale proceeds.

I wonder if we would target Nico Williams at Athletic Club. He has a release clause. A former Athletic Club player as head coach. Maybe that’s our Gakpo replacement.
I would have thought we would have heard/ seen something on that front already if that was the case?
Good player but plays on the left wing mostly. Would be competing with Barcola surely.
I think he can play on the right, though. He’s two footed. Pacey. Strong.

Probably can yeah. He´s a very good player. I think we´d reduce his effectiveness a bit but you could say the same for playing Gakpo on the right.
Though I quite liked that he couldnt do his usual cut in and shoot and so he started trying to get round the back and it was useful.

Agree,that was peak stupid!
Can understand why they’d want to sell him at £80m+, never going to get that kind of fee for him again and it’s probably far above his actual value. If they do that though then have to sign both Minteh and another player who can cover Isak up front which seems very unlikely.

I’d rather reuse the Gakpo money in buying a midfielder.
We will still create some chances but we won’t win anything if our midfield is so easily run through. Get in a #6.
Why on earth isn’t the transfer window shut before the season starts. I know the answer but it still doesn’t make sense…

If Gakpo wants to go, Let him go. 100m is way too much to refuse.
Our price should be 100 million pounds, not euros. He’s worth more than 80 million quid.
