Given the club have been briefing all summer that they’d be happy to sell him, it’s not surprising that he would want to go.
Selling to a rival with 2 days to get a replacement is ridiculous, no matter what the fee.

The biggest criticism that I can direct at Gakpo is that he’s become a one-dimensional player and that he just doesn’t work in tandem with Kerkez (though that goes both ways, I guess).
To be honest, I’m looking at him in a similar manner like Diaz last summer - good player but probably not good enough on the whole for where I would like Liverpool to be (which is title chase, not fifth place scrap). Like Diaz, I think it’s a good time to cash in.
That said, the main difference between those transfers would be that we actually get a good replacement in before letting him go - in this case, Barcola is virtually done but it leaves the right flank position unsolved. I hope that Barcola and that new right winger arrive before Gakpo is sold.

What I dislike most right now…is these bunch of positive spin and narratives floated around that Gakpo should be sold for this much money.

The fact is currently he is our best performing attacker. He is the only one in the attack who can play left/right wing,striker,false 9 and above all has instilled in him the ethos embossed during Klopp era.
A players monetary value is not the only thing you look at. Players like these are long term investments of the club. They have instilled club ethos,culture and what it means to play for this club.
He is a no-nonsense footballer.Mentally very strong, to be able to play after such a tragedy he has dealt with .Comes in …trains hard, works hard and our first instinct is to sell him off. Not focussed on hairstyles, snapchats or clothing…if you know whom I am referring.

Our needs were right back, defensive midfielder, right wing and striker backup.
We ended up with this shite situation because of a poor Sporting director and his boss who is out of the club already. Buying another 100 million player which offers no guarantee will be a success and replacing him with a player instilled with your ethos,hard work and culture. You do not sell these players.
Barcola’s deal is already what 125 million + and adding on agent fees and signing on fees, 150+ for a player. It’s crazy this much amount on a player who was never a necessity, should have been rather used to fix the squad and thereby shafting the manager and us chasing shadows for another few years.
And dare I say replacing Gakpo with Sarr at 28 spending another 70 million, I am lost for words,replacing a premier league winner 12 months ago… It’s like we are on a mission to completely destroy everyone associated with ethos instilled during Klopps era.
Did we not learn anything after selling Diaz ? And, does anyone give a thought for a second, how selling Gakpo affects the squad. How do the players in house feel ? How it affects their morale …Top player, Mentally strong, who works hard …getting sold for only reason that a new shiny toy is available in the market with no guarantees that it will be better and equally versatile.
Absolutely diabolical and amateurish stuff from the club on display. We are the joke of the summer window.

I wont defend this @Vangart , but to me the blame lies with Edward’s and Hughes, but there are a few things i would take as a positive tbh, most of us were frustrated last season with Gakpo, and its almost a shame because its wasnt his fault that slot kept putting him in the team , but he was one dimensional in so many games.
And barcola, whilst the price is a joke, does offer a fresh approach and if im being honest im lookong forward to him coming after the massive failures of isak and wirtz not living up to the hype.
But the positives that i have to take is that , yes Edward’s and Hughes to me are to blame for a lot of this…but, we have new investment into Liverpool, but FSG are still in control, and they knew nothing about the club and managed to rebuild all of our expectations ( admittedly Klopp was their greatest signing) …but we are doing a proper rebuild by the looks from top to bottom, and just like last time , we have to be patient , but the main difference is FSG are now experienced with the club and how to make us competitive, mistakes will be made ( isak, wirtz, Hughes & Edward’s) but i honestly have to believe as always they will learn, and adapt for the benefit of the club.

Ironically, three clubs that are known for making pretty good transfers - especially the latter two. Brentford are going to be extremely difficult to play against this season.
