Darwin NUNEZ: 2023/24

Was always the reason I wanted him to start ahead of Gakpo in CF. He’s got the strikers instinct

He’s a good player but out of form so needs benched for Darwin. Ball was bouncing off him every time today

Nunez is a better striker (I guess) but I’m not sure if he’s a better overall football player… Gakpo was immense towards the end of the last season, just as Nunez’ form started deteriorating. The bottom line is that Klopp has to get the most out of both, I only wish we had such options at centre back and when it comes to defensive midfielders.

I fully agree with your other remark: if Klopp doesn’t turn Nunez into a world class striker, it will be one of his biggest failures. I’d extend that to Gakpo, who I was puzzled and disappointed by initially but who really grew on me over time because I realised that he’s a really intelligent and versatile player, the kind that makes the team larger than the sum of its parts.

I had lost track of the fact he scored 9 PL goals last season and 4 in Europe. Darwin always seems to impose his way to chances. Even when his finishing sucked, he got look after look. For me that’s why he should start if he’s healthy. Those two finishes today were not a given, for sure.

As an opposing manager, do you want to see Diaz, Nuñez and Salah lining up against your squad? Frightening.

Would you also want to see him come off the bench with that pace with 20 mins to go?

The monkey is Eddie Howe. This from the BBC article.

“The £85m Uruguayan’s campaign could be accurately described as hit and miss, with 15 goals from 42 appearances including 26 starts, with 12 big chances scored and 28 missed as measured by OPTA statistics.”

That first goal was a bit strange. Jota’s pass hits Dan Burn in the arse, and then he backheels it to Darwin, who finishes. On the second goal he just torches Dan Burn. The big man is having nightmares tonight about those two plays.

Dan got Burned today

Fucking hell have they got the thickest bunch in for MoTD 2 with the exception of the Alex

Whose on this week?

Shearer and Micah Richards

Basically a drone and a laugh then.

Micah’s shrieking might be okay on a drunken lads night out but not on MoTD 2.

You can tell when the delivery is that flat and monotone that the outcome wasn’t the one that the commentator desired .

I immediately remembered that comedian who used to lip-sync Tyler’s Liverpool commentary, this had me in bits. :joy: I won’t miss Tyler but his retirement took away a lot of that comedic relief.
