Darwin Núñez (FW) Benfica

Fans of clubs like Man Utd with their purchases of Pogba , Maguire and Arsenal with their purchases of Pepe , Mustafi etc shouldn’t be commenting on how Liverpool decide to spend their money. Our big ticket transfers in that price range (VVD/Alisson) have been massive successes , no reason why Nunez won’t be the same.

This is exactly it. Actually, two fold.

It seems high to me for a player with such little sample size. Goldbridge did an excellent job breaking down why the fee is what it is. So that part I have to live with.

For me, it also makes me nervous we won’t have much to put in the midfield. IMO it’s an area with needs either upgraded or strengthened.

EDIT: and contrary to what Limiescouse posited, it doesn’t have to be all or nothing. Simply because one is uncomfortable about the fee doesn’t mean I don’t rate the player or think he can’t play here.

And again, as is the popular phrase of the day “it’s not my money” so in the end why should I really care?

Same goes for Mo. Its not my money so I shouldn’t care what they offer him, and by the same token I don’t know why anyone else should that claims he shouldn’t earn over certain wage.

With out going transfers and the fact that transfers are often paid in instalments (except in the case of buyout clauses) , We will have enough to buy defensive reinforcements provided the right targets are available.

Also a good point. What will be will be!

Honestly I don’t know why I said anything. I don’t want to harsh anyone’s vibe. Nunez will be a Liverpool player.

His fee is a perfectly valid concern. What makes no sense is the toys out the pram reaction when people disagree with your opinion.

If he’s £200m and hits the ground like a train and drives us to Cl and PL glory, so what? It’s not “our” money. Imagine the fun and games if we weren’t being linked with £80m+ players. I guess some people are never happy. Not spending enough money, spending too much money , buying the wrong players etc. When did we last buy a United standard flop?

People only remember the fees spent on bad players. We spent 75 on VVD and Allison (or there abouts) and nobody really minds or cares because they’re great. I’m not overly worried.

I’m nervous when we spend a lot of money too, but I’m so confident in our recruitment team that the nerves turn to excitement and I can’t wait to see it become official, and then let’s see what he can do in a Liverpool shirt.

I’m made up that our success, and the wise way the club is run, has meant that we can shop high up when we need to. We will also continue to shop in other areas of the market and unearth value that other top clubs don’t seem to find as much.

Perhaps in three years time we will have over €300M worth of talent up front in Nunez, Diaz and Carvalho, and you won’t be able to tell who cost €85M, €40M and €10M.

It’s not the same thing though. Mo’s wage impacts our wage structure and potentially the team dynamic. Darwin’s price tag is only FSG’s concern

Lol I give up. That’s toys out of the pram? Please quote the parts that made you uncomfortable. Maybe we can talk about it and I can make you feel better.

Cool story bro! “Not your money.”

I love it that we’re competing for the top talents. Of course they aren’t going to be cheap. That’s just how it is when you’re among the elite.

Tbf, even the Roma owner thought he’d pulled John Henry’s pants down over the Salah deal.

Also a great point.

44 in the house

Even if he is a flop, it shouldn’t be the end of the world. We’ll still have four other class forwards.

Grealish was a £100m flop, City won the league
Lukaku was a £97.5m flop, Chelsea reached two domestic cup finals and won the super cup and club world cup
Sancho was an €85m flop, but he wasn’t even close to the reason for United’s shite season

It will be a disappointment and opposition fans will love it, but it won’t define our future.

He won’t be a flop cos we got Klopp

I fucking love me some Eagly

I don’t think he will flop. Price aside, I am extremely excited to have a player like Nunez. I’m not at all shading our other forwards, Nunez seems a bit more ruthless or clinical with his strikes. He has a dog mentality and is always looking to score.
