Diogo Jota (LW) Wolves

Yup, he has looked a bit jaded at times. Bringing in this kind of player will push him to his best again, I’m sure.

Our second front three would be Joto, Origi/Shaqiri Minamino depending on who we sell.
Not bad.

Seems a tad expensive to me but the last 48 hours have shown how little I know.

Wolves fans seem to think there’s some inconsistencies with his performances that need ironing out and he rarely completes 90 minutes. Sure Klopp and the team will get that taken care of sharpish.

Surely spells the end for Big Div.

Initially this was viewed as a back up to option Sarr who had become too expensive. But this fee ended up being more than the reported threshold it would have taken for Watford to start listening. There is an interesting structure of this deal, and possibly cash issues offset with being able to send Ki the other way, and so either or both of these might have made it a more financially doable deal at this moment than Sarr, but iwhat this isnt is a cheaper fall back.

Or at least that is what Im telling myself.

It’s a similar fee to what we paid for Mané who at the time had similar numbers for Southampton and was around the same age. It’s a reasonable price and the payments seems to be structured in a way that suits us as well.

23 years old and we’ve analyzed him for 10% of his life already according to The Independent.

Melissa Reddy is reporting Wolves have accepted less than 10% of the figure guaranteed in the next 12 months.

Southampton fans said the same about Mane. It’s funny how forwards in middling sides often appear inconsistent to their fans.

It is, but I think Reddy said we are only paying 10% of it this summer - which may have pushed the overall price up, although I think Wolves are probably fairly good (i.e strong negotiators) and so arent going to let a player go easily.

Paying 10% this summer (about £4m), along with the £5m for Thiago means that we are having a relatively big summer by our recent standards on the cheap. The downpayments on the 3 players we have sold probably cover these two, plus with at least 6 or 7 other players going either on loan or being sold this window should see a positive cash flow this window from our deals. Then, any of these players being loaned out this window will probably be sold next year when the market picks up a bit to cover the rest of the payments outstanding on these deals, and leave us with a bit more on top of that…and a squad that looks so much stronger than last year bar at CB.

Ironically it’s the same thing a Soton fan said to me about Mane.

It was mainly comments on an article on The Athletic about him being quite streaky last year. Short burst of goals then a barren spell.

However, when they broke the underlying numbers down it wasn’t that he was necessarily not playing as well but he missed a greater number of ‘big chances’ and the emergence of an end product from Traore overshadowed his contribution a bit.

Good news is, better side means better chances hopefully.

A lot of journalists Pearce, Reddy are actually saying Wolves down payment for Hooever is essentially covering the Jota payment.

That was the major criticism of Mane by Southampton fans as well. (inconsistent and not finishing games)

I think when your relying on players like him week in - week out in a small squad it becomes an issue. We are lucky that typically one of our other forwards typically compensates if the other is having an off day (so its not noticeable)

So… we still don’t have any money… but are doing business :sunglasses: Edwards paying the bill forward, Klopp obviously wants to freshen squad so we can do it all again. I’m all for it*

*we have value needed in squad, just need to sell the fringe players

I think the fact he has played his last two years at a well run Wolves side must be a benefit for us. I had my doubts about their strategy when they brought in a super agent to oversee their transfers, but he has done a great job for them and not bled them dry in doing so. The club have played some good football and gone out to win - including the Europa League which English clubs dont usually take too seriously. If we are going to pay an English club £40m for a player, I don’t think we can go far wrong if it is Wolves, and if we are paying a small premium, I think they can feel justified in earning it.

All this excitement in one day has tipped me over the edge. I’ve only gone and watched a youtube compilation of this lad! I know I’m meant to take them with a pinch of salt, but have to say I can easily picture him in a red shirt. Seems to suit very well style-wise. Happy Friday all round

It also perhaps allows us to let someone like Wilson go on loan this summer if there are no decent offers for him and look to set up a deal next summer when we’d need to start paying off some of these deals.

Could be really sensible business given the market at the moment, albeit it costs us a few extra quid on the deal so we can spread the payments.

Few reports saying that Pep Lijnders convinced Klopp that Jota was the better option than Sarr.

According to the Guardian ( sorry don’t know how to post link) he’s just signed and waiting for medical.
