I think with Jota you know you are getting him from a club that will press teams and not hold back, Wolves have if I’m honest been the most impressive team for me these last few years.

Bar us, credit to them as they’ve never been willing to give teams an easy ride as shown in the Man City games.

He’s a wide player but his goals remind me of watching clips of Salah at Roma - it was basically just a tonne of rebounds that he knocks in from six yards.

Not saying he will be as good as Salah, obviously, but I think he shows stylistic similarities to what we already have due to his ability and desire to attack the “half space” between the full back and centre back which leads to some really simple looking goals.

Well there you go whack. In comes another one. I will admit I had reservations over some of Klopp buys in his early days but that fish slapped me hard. So welcome mate and all the best. What you are now and what Klopp can make you will be amazing.

Interestingly enough, i did read some article that said the flexibility of the pay structure for this deal is what makes it work for both parties.

YES, YES, YES - BUT WHAT WILL JOTA BE LEANING ON

  • Confused twitter lads, suggesting that by ‘FSG OUT’ they meant ‘ON THE LASH’
  • That GIF of Klopp going ‘Boom!’
  • Melwood stairwell or something
  • Edward’s big computer, with all steam coming out of it and stuff.
  • Jorge Mendes, rubbing his hands together, the bastard.
  • Origi’s locker. Soz div.
  • Angry Mancs
  • Sadio browsing weekend UK breaks in January.
  • 306 missed calls from Watford.

All agreed, not completed…

all that needs to be done to complete the transfer is a medical, which should take place soon

For what looked like a quiet window it has caught fire in a hurry.
Jota is a great signing and will repay the investment in spades.
You would think this means big Div. will go though.

I read what you’re referring to, but that’s not what it said, that Pep “convinced” Jürgen to choose Jota over Sarr. It was more of Pep’s voice being one that was loudest in the room for Jota. It’s The Boss’s side. He wouldn’t ask Edwards and Gordon to allocate those funds if he wasn’t 100% entrenched in having the player.

I will say this, after seeing what the final fee was for Jota it suggests to me Sarr was never actually made available by Watford. It would have taken some club making a substantial bid (overpayment) to pry him away from Watford. Zero chance Pozzo is selling his most prized asset for “pennies on the dollar” as the Americans like to say. Sarr’s value will only increase from here. He’s worth more to them in a bid to regain promotion.

Thiago and Diago in a day… Bouncing…

I have to say - I’m excited to add him, but that’s a pretty big fee and it makes me wonder why the club couldn’t spot another 10M or so to lock up Werner - who was clearly a serious consideration for them and wanted to be here.

Nevertheless, though, I’m excited to add Jota. It was really important to get some depth in the front three, especially if Brewster isn’t in the club’s plans for the near future.

I can only guess and say, if Klopp really wanted him, the owners would have backed him up. So the only logical conclusion is that while he is a very good player and even Klopp thinks so (if I am not wrong) and seem like a perfect fit for us, but they must have worked out what are needs and wants and decided on what they decided.

Or maybe at that point of time, we did not have clarity of financial impact of Covid and Werner was not willing to wait. This might be also a very important factor as it seems Werner is very keen to move on and confirm a move very early on.

Good move. I like the fact that he’s spent a year in the Championship and did exceptionally well, followed by two good years in the Prem. Will only turn 24 soon, so ideal age for Klopp.

Also seems to be able to play a whole season, rather than getting small injuries like Xherdan (when there’s an opportunity for rotation or a player is injured, Shaq inevitably stubs his toe or something).

With Jota, even if we’re chasing a goal, Klopp can now afford to replace Mo or Mane if they are off form in the match or a little niggle.

And actually he has more involvements in goals then what I thought he has…last 2 seasons, a goal or assist every 2 games. Not bad at all in a pretty strong Wolves team.

I think Werner wanted to move ASAP and Liverpool were waiting while Thiago was happy to see how it panned out instead of jumping at the first offer, no doubt Thiago had many a suitor but it seems obvious he only wanted to go one place and for one of the best players in Europe to wait for that to happen speaks volumes about our club right now.

I’m not bothered however, I think Jota is a very decent addition who at only 23 can improve and gives us more flexiblity probably at a lower quality perhaps, however we have gone and bought a prize asset in the middle of the park probably in our weakest area.

As Klopp would say… Boom.

Double whammy, love how we do business. I have to say I was skeptical we were going to miss out on Thiago now after confirming him we have agreed terms with Jota! Great news, handy player him and Jiminez imo are a under appreciated forward duo.

Reading the news about the fee and installments, just wow, hats off to Edwards, incredible work. No doubt the twitterati I will be going on about how we have overpaid and are no different to city in terms of spending money, but come the end of transfer window I wouldn’t be surprised that we have a positive net spend :joy:

Your possible explanations are reasonable. I just think Werner is a better player, personally. I also wanted Sarr over Jota.

But I do trust Klopp and Edwards, ultimately.

I’m also a bit surprised at the fee, more generally. If you had told me two weeks ago that we were going to spend in excess of 40M on a player during this window, I would have been stunned with the talk of the club’s more limited financial capacity, and would not have guessed that Jota was the target.

Then we spend something like 65M+ in a single day on two players and are linked with a CB. That’s a big departure from the recent narrative, and it makes me wonder if it was a smokescreen from Edwards to depress fees. I also don’t think it’s a surprise that we made our move once we locked up Thiago, so Bayern wouldn’t try to squeeze us further.

I think if Werner had patience, it would have been him today with Thiago. Not that bothered, but will be interesting to see how they compare going forward. Can’t blame Werner. Wait two months and we’ll give you x amount, or sign for Chelsea now for 25% more.
