EFL Cup. Third Round. Liverpool vs Tottenham Hotspur. Tues 15th September. 2000hrs

I always say with the league cup if you aren’t going to win it, get knocked out now. No one is arsed and we could be better off without this in our lives.

Mamardashvili
Frimpong Endo Araujo Tsimikas
Gravenberch Nyoni
Munoz Koumas Ngumoha
Danns

Fitness permitting….

I think Iraola needs a few low-consequence matches to work through some combinations. League Cup would seem useful for that, but I would hope the toys stay in the pram in the event of a loss when he does that.

James McConnell should see the pitch. I’d start him with Nyoni.

It’s not important, but we need to get a winning sequence so we thought Fulham could get us going but no, so a Spurs side devoid of any unity could’ve a good place to restart our winning run…but then we thought a Fulham side with no points…

I agree 100% Try someone else in Wirtz’s position, hopefully the team will improve attacking wise and maybe even as a whole.

Fulham were a good team they just seem to have problems scoring. They posed us lots of problems. As we saw last season with Aston Villa some seasons a team starts poorly and gets better. It’s rare but it’s possible. I don’t believe Fulham will do an Aston Villa this year however they will imo start climbing to mid table.
We’re just poor at assessing other teams .

And how do you know that?

That’s a bit of a silly thing to always say

Something like this? I imagine Gakpo wont start after the injury but come on again the second half. Not sure if Gomez will be able to start, but I really hope so so we can manage VD and JJ’s minutes. Excited to see Nyoni in particular but also Koumas play a bigger role.

As far as I know, Chiesa isn’t back in training yet. His injury—or illness?—must be a long-term issue; a few days ago, he mentioned that he was back outside and going for walks. Whatever that actually means.

If Gakpo was able to come on against Fulham, I assume he can start tonight. He probably will. Extra motivation to show himself against Spurs, if they come back in for him.

At least the Dog is getting a walk now.

Id be tempted to start Gakpo up front.

Firstly to rest Isak but also in case Isak gets injured, to see how it would work.

Now now, that’s not a nice thing to call Chiesa

I’m not sure the likes of Chiesa and Danns are fit enough to even be in contention tonight? Go past this round with people that are actually training and they might get some minutes later.

I know. It’s kind of tongue in cheek. But there isn’t many worse outcomes in football that to lose a League Cup semi final.

But the club will have a sense about whether this is a tournament we really want to go for. Do we have the squad? What is the conditioning of the players?

If the assessment is that we not really in a state to go for this, then you don’t play any of the senior players and you let the chips fall where they may.

Apparently there is no extra time if it is a draw. It’s straight to penalties

4-1. Just not sure which side we will end up in.
