What you’ve done is read my post in isolation. I was merely pointing out/replying to the posts above mine about how Fulham could fuck us about. Ive pointed out the only viable reason they could. That’s all. I’m not hypothesising that this will happen
I have no idea.
Haha @SBYM.
You look a right arsehole there, m8.
Meh.
These bland cunts all blend into one another.
They even blend into themselves.
Mbappe is a lost case for everyone now. Haaland will be interesting…
Clubs throwing silly money for them. No matter how good they are
Just when we all thought it was going so well, along comes…
Some interesting points in the Athletic’s article this morning:
- while the PL allows a two-hour deadline extension if deal sheets are submitted, the EFL does not
- a number of clubs have been put off going for him because of the complexity of his representation - he recently left his agent and is being represented by his family, but various agents have been circling trying to broker deals for him, including the move to Liverpool
- playing time is the most important concern for him (I think we definitely do well in this aspect)
- he’s good friends with Elliott, who texts him whenever he scores, and they both apparently relish the chance to link up again
Which is why the worry someone like Dortmund come in for him is perfectly reasonable.
Yes, I’d imagine that’s the fear.
Slightly concerning part: we had from ~8 pm to hash out deal with Carvalho and submit paperwork but couldn’t get it done. 3 hours to sort 19 yr old contract sounds like it should be enough time. Maybe I’m slightly naive, but it seems like enough time.
The most frustrating thing is it appears we weren’t aware that the EFL doesn’t allow an extension.
The Elliott connection is a good selling point. There’s a pathway he can see his mate has taken at the club and that age isn’t really a barrier to game time even when you’re very young.
Sure, Dortmund can point to Sancho and Bellingham to show he’ll be given a chance but we’ve got Trent, Jones and Elliott playing first team football in one of the best sides in Europe from a very young age. We can point to Morton and Gordon as our next ones coming through already getting good first team experience. We can look to Milner leaving as a space opening up in the squad he could step into or a good loan management system should we think he’d benefit from another year playing week in week out first.
I think we’re a very strong proposition for him and he’s clearly been convinced of us once already. I wonder why there weren’t whispers of any of the foreign clubs really going after him as soon as we hit January?
We can probably also demonstrate how we help young players move on if they wish to leave.
Yeah our record of promoting youth is comparable to any club in the world, we shouldn’t be afraid of Dortmund (although they would be a good move for him).
Our pitch is simple - you can play regularly here, get paid more and don’t have to leave the country. In the meantime we can guarantee you’ll be challenging for every major trophy in the world and you’ll be in prime position to take over from Salah or Mane in a couple of years and become a global superstar.
Go to Dortmund and yes you’ll have a good development period but let’s be real you’re going to be limited to the mega rich clubs - PSG, Madrid, Man Utd, Man City - when you want to leave and NONE of those clubs will actually care about you or your development in the way Liverpool will right now.
Honestly we are the no-brainer selection.
Is it true that the Dortmund model is so successful? Which players have they nurtured who have then made the move up to the absolute top level?
We had a fair bit longer even. My feeling is that the inclusion of the Neco loan unsettled matters. I think it took attention away from properly finalising the loan-back of Carvalho such that a mistake was made when the papers were submitted that could not then be corrected in time.
Sancho?
Haaland?
Bellingham (is next)
Dembele, Hummels, Goetze, Reus, Lewandowski… all hit world class standard at one point or other due to their time at Dortmund, they’re quite a good “star maker” side.
I’d argue Sancho hasn’t yet, and both the others are still there. The point made above about Dortmund’s expectations re sell on fees limiting the next move to only super rich clubs is valid I think. Think of some of the youngsters that have made that big jump for big money then failed. A big money move is not always a success for the player.
