We were allowed to speak to him already and he agreed to join us in the summer.
That’s at least a verbal / gentlemens agreement.
He is out of contract in the summer which means we are still allowed to talk to him now.
Fully expect him to join us in the summer but if he changes his mind - which means breaking that verbal / gentlemens agreement that’s would say enough about his character and he can fuck off.
Surely if he seriously wanted to explore other options he could/would have declined to make a decision until the summer? It’s not like he only became aware that other clubs might come to the table once the deal with us collapsed.
Different rules for domestic clubs vs foreign clubs. Domestic clubs are only allowed to start talks a month before the end of the contract (if I remember my second-hand information correctly).
He saw his mate Harvey Elliott today. Lovely control, turn and finish. He saw the rousing reception of the crowd, the jubilation, the thanks Harvey gave to his family, the Liverpool family, fans… even the physio was singled out.
If that doesn’t communicate to Carvalho how lucky he is that he gets to join us, nothing will.
Many things can happen, he can get a better offer from elsewhere. 6 months in football is a lot of time. I’m confident we’ll get it done, but we’ve seen much stranger things. Nothing much to say until it’s potentially announced.
As with Klopp, I think he is very good can careful with making sure players are bedded in at their pace where possible. If I were to compare Harvey Elliot and Fabio Carvalho, the former comes in this season as a first team senior squad after one full season with Blackburn, so technically the latter after his first full season with Fulham, would be ready to come in into the first team squad. My belief is that, if he is joining of course, that he will definitely join the pre-season, will be put into first team training, and in certain games and see how he responds to being thrown into the deep end from the CHampionship to PL. Harvey took his opportunity with both hands and legs and does seem to be on an upward trajectory, so its likely Fabio would be given the same treatment because he seems more than ready to outgrow the Championship and he would need to prove in a short time that he can cut it in a short time or else like you said, he might be sent out on loan for more first team experience.
I think there has to be a balance. We want clubs to want to deal with us. We may be right to be annoyed with Fulham (or maybe we are not!) But have to consider how our actions are viewed by them and by other clubs.
