Well, our recent dealings doesn’t suggest we’re a selling club, unless the players want out.

Not so worried.

It’s not about us being a selling club, but from a business perspective, if you have the chance to triple your money with very little time or effort it can be very tempting to cash in.

Juventus paid 60M only 2 years ago, so there is obviously talent there. At what price does the decision get taken out of Slot’s hands and the club say it is to high an offer to refuse? 4 times his transfer fee? 5 times? Both of those look like they could be a reasonable transfer fee for a player of his quality

Has a transfer out ever been forced on a Liverpool manager, when it wasn’t abundantly clear the player wanted to move?

He’s going to be Mo’s successor if all goes well, so very unlikely to be sold. I’d only worry that having lived in Florence and Turin he may not appreciate Liverpool’s charms.

Should the medical take this long?

Medicals are a risk reward thing. World of difference pressing ahead despite a dodgy knee when you are paying £10m, compared with paying £50m.

If he does so well for us so in the next 2 seasons and becomes a great player, then it does not matter what we pay. It will be the market price then for a great player. Won’t be 25m, that is the price Brentford paid for Carvalho who is yet to prove anything so Chiesa will be way more than that if he does regain the pre injury form and he already showed he can with some glimpses of that last season

Usually split into two parts. He prob starts his medical today, given he arrived yesterday afternoon.

Should be done and dustsd with lean by tomorrow.

He is undergoing a 24 hour stress test running at high speed continuously for 24 hours on the treadmill to prove his knees are ok.

Also, probably 95% of the medical is administrative.

I remember meeting Dr Bukner years ago, and a mate asked about medicals as his team would always sign a player then end up crocked for several months. Dr Bukner was aying that most of the work in a medical is actually gathering the players and family medical history and going through doctors notes from years back and making a judgement based on what is in the medical history.

On a side note, he was telling a story about how easy it is for a club to cancel a transfer for failing the medical simply if the players’ current club decide to play funny buggers. Never revealed who it was, but he was telling us a story about a club that was desperate to sign a player and it was coming into the final couple of days of the transfer window but the current club were desperate to keep the player, so sent all of the original medical documents, not the translated ones so the buying club got the players medical history in various languages and were forced to try and find various translators at the last minute to translate everything but ended up running out of time to allow the club medical department to conduct the proper review

One of the reliable ones said 24 hours so I expect later today. Also have to do all the promo rubbish.

Of course, in terms of medicals, Frank Worthington’s one is legend. Essentially, he shagged himself into high blood pressure and the whole thing fell through.

Kind of tangential but if all goes well with this move then this is likely a good thing for Ben Doak. He can now go on loan for 2024/2025, some very good clubs interested, while Chiesa provides cover to Salah.

Salah will be 33 at the end of the season, there’s a chance he isn’t extended - or maybe has one more year.

If Chiesa does well here then he eventually becomes the RW starter from Salah while Doak can get experience on loan and come back to be a solid full time back up and get a shot at taking Chiesa’s role in a few years time when he’ll be 21/22.

The shape Salah is in i dont think there is much of risk in a 2 year deal. Ideal scenario will be give him a 2 year deal and sell him during last year for a considerable fee to Saudi - say even 80-100 million pound is easily viable as many clubs will want Salah as he is bigger than Ronaldo and Messi in that part of the world.

No chance Saudi are paying that for him, if he goes there it will be at the end of this season as they will pay him stupid wages and save money on a transfer fee…why would they do that in 12-24 months if he has a contract extension with us?
