I thought El Matador would have been a fantastic striker for us, but he signed for fucking Utd. He would have been an expensive alternative to Bobby at the time but he was lethal at Napoli, and I wished he’d have come to us instead of Liverpool. Even in his twilight years you could see his quality (and frustration) at United.

No one was seriously comparing Cherki to Wirtz until Wirtz picked Liverpool over City. Seems like rival supporters are snorting plenty of copium.
Cherki’s talent is well-documented. He’s been a French prodigy since he was a teenager. He might be a very good player for City, rising to the occasion. Or, he might find himself in Pep’s doghouse because of his lack of workrate and well-documented attitude issues. There have been plenty of great talents who have not realized their gifts because they just don’t have the drive to match their talent.
Wirtz not only has the physical ability and skill, but he also has the track record of brilliance and a winning mentality. I don’t have any doubts that he will come into this team with tenacity and commitment and drive. Can’t say the same about Cherki.
Ultimately, I think the best Cherki can hope for - if everything comes together for him - is to be as good as Wirtz is right now. And Wirtz can get even better than he is right now.
