Liverpool have opened talks with Bayer Leverkusen for the potential club-record signing of Florian Wirtz. The Premier League champions have made a formal approach for a player valued at £125 million. There remains much negotiating to be done on the fee, but Liverpool’s move is the clearest indication of growing confidence a deal can be completed.
