Get lost and find yourself! The Travel Thread

It’s a wonderful city. So much to see and fantastic restaurants too.
You will have a great time.

My partner recently surprised me by booking us a week in Lyon.

We’d been looking to get away somewhere as she has been working herself to the bone on a new business she started about 18 months ago and I thought the plan was to do a quiet relaxing trip somewhere in the Caribbean. She seemingly made a last second executive decision for a city break instead feeling that if we did something that gave her that much downtime she’d pull out her laptop and get back to work (yes, she has a problem).

So now she’s booked us a trip for somewhere she’d never even heard of before booking and cannot really explain why she chose it other than it looked nice. I’m pumped because its obviously an excellent city for food so feel like I could just spend the week wondering around from place to place eating and be satisfied, but we have no actual plans or agenda for the trip. Any pointers or ideas for day trips?

FWIW, I have looked at there are no games there the week we are there so that is a no go.

Take trousers with an expandable waist. As you say, it’s a wonderful place for food and drink. The local bouchons are cheap and authentic; the food is filling and the wine can be coarse but goes wonderfully with the local cuisine.

I don’t know if you speak any French, but the locals appreciate it if you at least make an effort.

I’ve only been to the city itself, so can’t recommend any day trips.

Edit: A local wine tasting would probably go down well with the other half:

Awesome, cheers.

I took 3 years of French in school so have some basic recognition of what is being said, but that’s limited and the speaking bit is totally out of reach. So I restarted duolingo and have got up to helpful phrases like “the boy and the cat.” Thanks, Duolingo

As for the wine, she is Korean so absolutely wrecked from 1 one glass so wont participate but thankfully will happily join me as I do.

Just don’t ask for andouillette in a restaurant. That actually smells of merde.

Hah, I am barely paying attention when I get to that stage - the roof is kind of similar. Should have noted the time of your post.

Give a day or two to get myself oriented around TAN  :face_with_spiral_eyes:. When i got back from Istanbul. The following weekend, I had unexpected family turn up yo stay for the weekend. They came from Canada when i left for Turkey. Then I was back at work this week.
I should be back to normal ( my brain/physical being) by the weekend!

This is the effect of being around Canadians. It can take weeks to wear off.
