Golf! What a great way to 'waste' 4 hours

there’s a reason why a Jr set only has 4-5 clubs in it. Driver/wood, long iron, short iron/wedge, putter

Disappointing for Europe not to win that last game, let alone tie it. However, still a handy advantage and overall very good. Just need to see it through.

4 wins from 12… should be able to do that I feel considering some of the form of some of the guys so far.

11 or 11.5 pts seems so much better. I thought it was a bit careless to leave the door slightly ajar.

Mind you, to be fair Europe have been very good indeed, and building a 10.5 to 5.5 lead, going into the final day singles, is excellent.

Four points needed to win. Very doable.

America did slightly better than the odds but was always a bit of a mountain when they had to use their best players against Europe’s.

Anyhow nice £100 win on both the Solheim and Ryder cup victories for Europe, was 10/1 so a bit more actually.

played Newlands GC on Sunday AM. got out first light as a two, first tee time of the day. one bad hole as a 7, chip and putt were key as the greens were punched a week earlier. Wasn’t really keeping score due to the greens but unofficially an 83 as the heavy dew on the punched sandy greens were a delight to hit irons into (sticky greens) but a nightmare to putt.

Nick Dunlap wins his first pro tournament as a amateur the guy probably has a big future ahead of him.

Yep saw that, great performance.
Too many USPGA tour events are basically putting competitions these days.
Drive and a wedge into a green that sticks like a dart board on too many par 4’s.
21 players in that field carded 20 under or better.
Not in the least bit entertaining.

in the effort to sell golf equipment at an astounding rate, they’ve not dialed the equipment back enough IMO.

late 90’s, I had one of the Callaway S2H2 Bertha titanium drivers and if I hit the button on that driver just so I could push a ball out 275 yards in my physical prime.

Now I’m hitting a TM M2 driver at 3/4 swing about 280-290. It’s ridiculous how much they have changed the game with the equipment.

One slight issue on this is that the fact the likes of Pat Perez would get points for finishing in the top 54 players when the guy is playing Golf that even a celebrity golf tournament would baulk at.

And there are others who are even worse on that tour. Not sure why they should tear up a system for a comical tour, whose owners are profiting from the destruction of the planet. Can’t wait to see them playing on barren wastelands (actually I’ll hopefully be dead then).

Speak for yourself mate!

Haven’t checked this thread in a while, been struggling with some health and family issues, and my golf has suffered for it.

Saw some posts concerning weight transfer, and getting in front of the ball. May I suggest checking out George Gankas on YouTube. Great teacher, IMO, and ex-wrestler, who espouses the use of leverage in the golf swing. Into my 60’s now, and by incorporating some of his teachings into my game, I’m still able bang it 300+, and hit my 7 iron 175 yards.

The principles I try to attain each swing are: first downswing movement is down, ground yourself; stay behind ball; and full hip turn on release, get your left hip (righthanded golfer) behind you.

Getting back at it now, and the weather is turning here in South Carolina. Hoping to stay fit, and alive, for a number of more years, and enjoy this game that has brought me much vexation, pleasure, and friendship over my years.

In regards to my opening comment, I used to be a competitive long driver. 352 with a persimmon head wood stands my mark, in competition.

Any youngsters I’ve had the joy to help, I always tell, “hit it as hard and far as you can. We’ll sort out the accuracy later.”

I think the problem with a lot of swing advice is there are just too many cues. Even a top athlete can only process a small number of cues within a given movement and so effective movement coaching focuses on identifying the one, maybe two cues, that are most applicable to the biggest thing that needs to be addressed at the moment. Other cues can come later once the primary thing being cued now becomes routine.

The challenge with this paradigm in golf is that can still result in a LOT of bad shots while you are ingraining the thing you are working on because while you might have done the thing the cue intended you to do it was not part of an end to end effective swing. That can provide a very confusing feedback system that can make it very difficult to ingrain those things in the absence of a coach with a good eye (identifying that the cue did what it was supposed to even if the shot didnt go where you wanted it to).

spoken from the heart :+1: . I love my M2 driver (70g Tensei S, mid grip), but I’ve never hit one that far. 340y+ with a persimmon, that’s nuts.

This is my 9yo last summer. clubs are still a bit too long for him but he’s getting there. struggles with his balance a bit, club bottoms out behind the ball still but he squares it up and swing plane is pretty good.

Very solid move there! Looks like the bottoming out is a function of the club being a little too big/heavy for him right now.

If I had one thing I’d work on him with, it would be getting the club higher and deeper in his backswing. Will be difficult for him to do with the big club, so if you can find and age/size appropriate club, that should help. Also getting that hip rotation in the downswing rocking. As he grows, he will develop that lag which generates clubhead speed.

Just make sure he enjoys himself when he plays, or just hits balls. My youngest daughter was a natural. Used to take her to the range when she was 6-7 years old, and she’d fly balls over the 100 yard flag easily. I remember one time when a couple older guys stopped, and just watched her beat it for 5-10 minutes. She never loved the game though. Great athlete, excellent footy player also, but never “loved” any sport. Was just very good at any she tried. Luckily, she is also brilliant, and is planning to attend law school next year.

those clubs were a year or two ahead of him, but he grew out of the last set and he’s already grown two inches since last summer. think he should be getting comfortable with them this year and lasting him until he’s 12.

we have a 9hole executive at our rec property, have a set of Mizuno mp57’s I keep down there for playing. Looking forward to some warmer weather so I can get him out there this summer. Hope to be working from down there for a few weeks while he’s out of school

Agreed. 1 or 2 thoughts is all anyone should try processing when swinging a golf club. Down and around is usually what I’m using these days. Sometimes just as simple as slow.

My pro friend uses a three syllable word when swinging (1. Back 2. Down 3. Around). He lived and worked in Savannah, GA for years, so Sa-vann-ah it is. He is a firm believer in everyone has their own tempo, and will say the word to fit their tempo. Can’t teach an old dog new tricks, so I’ve never tried it.:joy:

So what is the rule in this situation? If a roo jumps on your ball is it a 1 stroke penalty? a drop ball?

play it as it lies, or if considered a “natural hazard” on the course a drop within 1 club length no penalty
