Golf! What a great way to 'waste' 4 hours

Ok, I know nothing about golf, but I was under the impression that McIlroy was a Trumpist, is that not true?

Not really. Trump has commented on wanting to be involved in finding a resolution to the PGA/LIV stand off and Rory has commented positively on his hopes that he can make that happen, and I think a lot of people just over interpreted that. Rory stood up for the PGA, got burned for it and now just wants the whole thing to be over and so is willing to accept Trump’s interest in helping that happen as a good thing.

Rory has been fairly apolitical in the past, speaking about US politics in only veiled ways, the way most normal non-american athletes might, as if to say ā€œwhy do you care what I think about this?ā€ but what he has said has revealed a pretty clear dislike of what he stands for.

Ok, like I say I don’t know anything about it.
Thanks for the info.

He’s also done a great job at avoiding politics here and being loved/owned by everyone. No mean feat.

Catholic who went to a predominantly Protestant school. Supports NI football and Ulster rugby. Played for Ireland in Olympics.

Drill Baby Drill...the US Politics Thread (Part 2) - #6592 by Limiescouse

Bye

He’s probably won sporting personality of the year.

Mmm that depends on the rest of the woke self crafted BBC list. But hopefully. He may well win more this year.

Err what’s exactly woke about the list?

That it has some women or black people…How dare they recognise this in err 2025.

They don’t stick people on who just tried a bit and finished 158th.

He will make the list and the public decide. So he will win it.

If you want to make the point this trophy was won by two royals. I think it’s more beneficial that we moved away from that kind of elitism?

Bloody hell nice response. It was slightly tongue in cheek. They make sure the list is fully inclusive rather than the top sporting achievements.

I have no issue with it. Luke Littler may win!

Nah. The people who vote on SPOTY are far more likely to watch golf than darts.

Can’t see it to be honest.

I would have thought McIlroy has a strong case for SPOTY, being only the 6th person in history to win the golf Grand Slam. There is a significant human frailty element too, as he has been trying to nab the Masters for a decade to complete the grand slam, and for all his undoubted genius he has flaws too, which actually just make you relate to him all the more.

I will be surprised if Rory doesn’t win it.

And going further - this part is a bit salty, he is a global star, wealthy beyond dreams, and winning SPOTY will probably be seen as a parochial, no big deal sort of thing, though if he does, he will be nothing but gracious.

Also featuring quite high on the 6pm news is usually a good sign.

I’d say SPOTY is pretty low down his list of priorities this year.

Career grand slam, The Open in Portrush, Ryder Cup…

Utd avoiding relegation

He’d probably be made up if he wasn’t nominated for that dogshit award

Oh it’s the Ryder cup…

Another thing that can annoy Trump
