Intriguing.
So did we like or dislike Quansah?
Now do we like or dislike Quansah?
What did Quansah do to you that makes you so passionate about your opinion of him?
In any case I’m lost.
I’m very intrigued by what he said about Matip, who btw is long gone in my memory of things.
Some people, not me as I said earlier, objected to the quote after the game where Matip blew his knee and ended his season and Quansah said “My idea was to try and get over him anyway, try and be a starting centre-back in the Premier League at the end of the day”.
I always thought it was fine to show that ambition and if his phrasing was a bit clumsy, give him a break he was a kid. But plenty were kicking off about it.
Game of words sometimes, I’m pretty sure there wasn’t any bad intention. I mean, when you look at Matip’s availability in his last 4 out of 5 seasons for us, Quansah didn’t have to do anything in terms of that.
Gerrard used to say when he started training with the first team, he looked at the likes of Redknapp and co, wanting to remove them from the team.
The challenge of winning headers in the box isn’t like the Philistines fighting Israel where both sides pick their champion and the winner is declared on the result of that 1-1 battle and you need to put a team out that can collectively win enough. You will generally built your team with an assumption your CBs are your core 2 ball winners.
A few years ago we ended up in a situation where Minamino struggled for games because he was weak in defending headers and with the loss of some of our other more physical players Klopp couldnt accommodate that
Isolated from Liverpool’s point of view, it’s refreshing to see another English player going abroad. More players should try that route in my opinion. I know there’s the big money aspect in the PL, but sometimes there are other interesting destinations where you can also at least compete and win here and there. Also, maybe return to the PL one day as a better player and more complete person.
