Jeremy Jacquet (CB) Rennes

How high can he jump?

Basic medical only. The final transfer will be subject to a more thorough assessment.

That’s the one.

Agree, but it makes me nervous. Guehi is who we should have secured as a priority. He’s precisely the profile we needed.

Mid 20s, leader, PL experience, versatile, homegrown, good fitness record…

We have a worrying gap between CBs leaving their prime and those that are extremely inexperienced.

Konate has been bang average. The amount of errors his made this season alone is shocking. I would let him go.

So, is that French lad better than Guehi then? Anyone has seen him playing already? For me too, that seems a lot of money for a 20-years old, but maybe he’s the new incarnation of Beckenbauer? We’ll see.

What seems risky for me, is the club refusing to address the ongoing issues for this very season. Our backline is very shortnumbered.

Plus the 3 under 21s we bought this window, one of which (6foot 5) will only join in the summer.

I think they are trying to beat Chelsea to him.

That’s why they have recalled Rhys Williams to the first team I think so unless they can get another loanee to replace the cancelled Getruide transfer from Sunderland/Leipzig.

Can’t understand us signing a Summer Jacquet when we clearly need a Winter one.

Seems increasingly a knock on effect to arsenal getting a young french defender in Saliba some years back. Clubs seem to be wanting to replicate that.

Not at such a premium though. Unless this young player is capable of playing at Konate’s level currently and with room to improve further, it makes little sense to be paying such a premium.

I do think we can always improve.

I love Konate. Such a gentle giant. But that’s the nature of the game right now especially when Konate seems set to leave.

And as long as he isn’t a lazar markovic.

I’d have agreed with you up to a couple of weeks ago, but given what’s happened in his family, form might need some reappraisal. If it’s been a long painful illness, then we should probably give him some slack.

Yeah, no one had thought of trying to buy French players before that. It really opened the door to a previously untapped market
