Jordan Henderson (CM) to Al-Ettifaq

Well, Bangladesh have done it. They are the Liverpool of cricket.

Ifthikar isn’t gonna live this down

He’s a good sport

Well the £200k is heavily taxed and he’s only been earning that for the last couple of years. He’s incredibly well off compared to us regular folk but £700k a week tax free could mean more than doubling his entire career earnings (before tax) in two years.

It’s generational wealth type of money which is kind of the point. It’s obscene to the point of being impossible to turn down. Unless that happens to you, you can’t be sure how you’d react. But if someone offered me a job for the next two years, doing what I do now, that paid me the same as I’d earned in the last twenty and it was going to be tax free too then I’d take it in a heartbeat.

Unless it was working for Everton. You’ve got to draw the line somewhere.

Ya…Fees is a concern. No point in selling Hendo for say 10-15 million pound. 35-40 million will be good money to buy a replacement.

It’s not hypocrisy when you’ve been against all those deals. I want no part of a country that murders journalists for criticising the leadership, that steal natural resources from the land and uses it to dominate and rule a nation, that enforces draconian religious laws on women, that arrests people for their sexual preference, that tortures and executes people for unspecified crimes without trial.

I’m sure someone will be able to make a link between our current sponsors and Saudi miney, I get that in a global world its inevitable to have income - at least indirectly - from sources we don’t necessarily support but I think there is a big difference between that and directly taking money from the Saudi regime.

Henderson is his own man and he can do whatever he wants. If he wants to move to a country where he can’t say or do what he wants, where he’ll drive past slave labourers on his way to an empty football stadium everyday for the sake of earning £30m a year instead of being taxed on his £10m a year Liverpool contract then that’s something he’ll have to live with.

For my part, I’d be free to think a lot less of him as a person. I think it would invalidate everything he has said about equality and human rights. Maybe he has some high minded idea about going there and still holding onto his principles - but he couldn’t and wouldn’t.

I’d be disappointed in Henderson taking the money. I’d be disappointing in FSG for taking the money. I would really prefer we just kept ourselves as far away as possible from the whole dirty business.

Or, it’s different people offering different opinions. You’re basically calling people hypocrites based on things they probably haven’t even said.

Also, you’re allowed to change your mind over the course of 17 years.

I say take whatever we can get for him, 10-15m is closer to what he’s worth right now. 33 and well past his best years.

The Saudi’s may have more money than sense but that’s not to say they’re senseless when it comes to business. Arabs don’t strike me as stupid people that can easily be taken for fools.

If Henderson is going to leave, he needs to go quickly so Klopp can get on with preparations for the season. The first Premier League game is only a month away.

£10 million is nothing, he’s got 2 years left on his contract. 30-40 million or tell them to swivel.

Exactly. They are paying huge wages but not transfer fees. Guess they will do the same with Salah couple of years down the line. They are clever people. No doubt. Looks like we are asking for 10 million - exactly what you had posted and very very reasonable  Think the deal will go through but they want him for free it seems. - from @Fabrizio

Maybe Hendo is just the cover story to Fab

Looks like we’ll be left with a depleted squad, if this continues.

Al Ettifaq plan was to get Henderson on free transfer.

:joy: Legends.

Although it’s not like I expected much more than £10m. Perhaps closer to £15-20m, add ons included.

Brozovic went for €18m and he’s a better and younger player.

wow…This came from nowhere… Looks like Lavia will be signed by this weekend. May be Thuram also.

I’d rather Liverpool get good money and get Lavia and Barella.

Is this ideal , nope. Ideal world would want Henderson to stay. But all things come to an end.
