I wonder how Papa Penguin and Penguin Jr. feel about this, considering they are desperately trying to reinvent themselves.
Maybe they will have Mumbai police knocking on their doors.
PS: The clowns at NYT are still wrong. It’s the state ruling party not opposition.
We all know who they are comparing them to. The whole ‘anything opposing BJP is good’ mentality is plain daft.
Funnily, as a life long Mumbaikar I know that SS is ten times worse than BJP. And this is coming from a Maharashtrian.
But then again, the communists in Kolkata committed crimes that were similar to ISIS, but look how fondly Yechury and his party is looked at nowadays. So yeah, opposing to BJP is the new good.
@Iftikhar
Mamta, unfortunately, is no different. She has employed similar method. Every other week we see a BJP worker lynched in the most horrible manner.
Moving on to other topics, is anyone here from Delhi. This looks horrible already.
And yet, no one’s wants to take on the farmers in Punjab who are burning crops or the construction industry - the two biggest causes of air pollution there.
Well, I talk only about the recent past. And only few examples to show how I feel BJP makes Shiv Sena (A comparitively right wing party) seem sane and centrist.
1.You’ve got BJP using their stooge Arnab and Kangana to shift the news to an unfortunate death of an actor and conducting a media trial of a person. That took precedence over the handling of Covid19. Have you ever seen Shiv Sena attempt to control what the media publicizes to the same extent ? I see Shiv Sena led govt arrest Arnab and I applaud it. The guy is a toxic shitstain.
You’ve got the government pandering to elections by hurrying up to build the Ram temple at the height of the covid19 pandemic in India. Is that needed ? Nope, Again pandering to the masses for right wing populism. Yeah , Shiv sena might have built a few shivaji statues or something, But look at the scale
When you are talking about dissent suppressment, Yes, Shiv Sena might have arrested a person for objectionable tweets. Try being a dissenter of the BJP in social media, You’ll end up being spammed by the 2paise per tweet gang there.
I mean there’s levels in this, You guys probably might be aware of this , BJP attempted to ban the sale of meat in some Jain festival because the Jains are an a community who actively both financially and otherwise support BJP. You are talking about a meat ban , I’m not even going into the B.S of beef ban in this post , on behalf of a community which is less than 1% ? One of the parties who opposed that was Shiv Sena…
In terms of right wing extremism , Everything that the BJP has done based under Shah/Modi makes Shiv Sena look balanced and centrist , That if anything tells you a lot.
So much to disagree in that post. Just so so much.
BJP played politics over SSR? You mean like Sena stood still and didn’t have an equal part. If anything, they indulged more by deliberately blocking CBI, stalling investigation, etc.
Went after Kangana and wasted the taxpayer’s money - yeah around 28 lakhs just in lawyers fee to break her office for which High Court have already reprimanded them. They might end up paying her 2 crores if she wins the case.
Going after Arnab - I mean I hate that guy for what he is - but anyone celebrating his arrest says a lot about that person and their support for free speech and political vendetta.
And it’s not just them. The way Sena has gone after common people for posting harmless shit online is actual Fascism.
How, well read this.
Try saying the word ‘Penguin’ on Facebook or Twitter if you live in Mumbai and watch what will happen to you, as Thackeray’s thugs come after you.
I can’t beleive you just actually said it’s okay for Sena to arrest people for expressing an opinion. Better than having trolls. I am sorry but that says a lot about you.
And since you are so concerned about Covid, Sena did all this during their utterly shitty effort to battle Covid in the state. The worst performance by the supposedly richest state. So much so, that when internal migration opened we actually exported cases to the rest of the country. All thanks to Sena.
The best part of any scam is that it can be done by bribing officials.
If you strictly follow the system, most of the scams can be avoided.
The Nirav modi one is epic! The guy literally set up 12 shell companies to artificially inflate diamond prices and in the end sold fake ones!!
Happy Diwali, all. Was doing a little reading this morning and hadn’t realized Jahangir released Guru Hargobind from imprisonment on this day too. Lots to celebrate then.
Really sad to see the lack of headlines about the Farmers/Kissan peaceful protests in India not being highlighted properly around the world.
Slowly ruining the lives of all small holding farmers, whilst filling friends’ already deep and full pockets, and all the while trying to claim that the farmers are “extremists”. Plenty of Indian media, particularly pro-modi (bigger cunt than most!), just making shit up and ruining lives. Even during the London protests, Indian journo’s were saying stuff like “These extremists are also protesting in London”. Holding a peaceful protest, and being barricaded out of a city - fucking extreme.
Yeah. I follow 15-20 news papers/channels from around the world and I have seen very little in terms of significant and consistence coverage on the issue.
Since you have posted @rupzzz, can you tell me why farmers only/mainly from Punjab, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh are participating. Is the social/economic landscape in these state different than in other states (Bengal, South India etc.).
I don’t know the details of it, but suspect largely down to the fact that most of the farming takes place up north.
Did find this statement;
India’s infrastructure and governmental support systems are not nationally consistent, which means that some states take much greater advantage of the program than others. The northern states of Punjab and Haryana sell a massive amount of rice and wheat to the government; many southern states, though some do produce a significant amount of these crops, aren’t covered as fully due to inferior infrastructure.
This has effectively meant that farmers in the north simply get better prices, and guaranteed prices to boot, compared with southern farmers. But the protest started in those northern states, and was met with a combination of brute force and propaganda. Hundreds of thousands of farmers created caravans to head to Delhi. Right-wing Indian press and representatives claimed, with little to no evidence, that there was a connection between these protests and the Sikh separatist movement, and possibly foreign governments. Protesters were hit with water cannons and tear gas, and braved very cold weather to protest in major cities.
