Life is nothing without Sholay and Anand.
I loved that film Sholay, I have watched it in 3 dubbed different languages.
It was the first film we watched in the cinema, we were 3 families, it was like a night out and we would eat out afterwards. It was near the Hanger Lane roundabout. It was the only cinema in west London at the time, which showed Asian films on the weekend.
Looks like there are more Indians hereā¦
Is there a possibility for a meet ?
I am in hyderabad.
Did you have Haleem this season? If yes, which place is the best this time? For the past few years, everytime I come home during Ramzan, friends have a new place to recommend. I will be back by this weekend and Haleem is on Sunday evening menu.
I had it at paradise next to prasads when i went for RRR. Was disappointing.
Waiting for some friends to tell me where its good. Whereabouts in hyderabad are you placed at ?
Paradise circle. Just across the original Paradise hotel.
Lol nice , let me know how the haleem in the original paradise tastes (the ground floor one).
Ill probably try bawarchi or bahar which are closer to my location once or twice.
I stay at narayanguda so thats the two which are tbe closest to me
Had a sort of a haleem tasting session with haleem from Bawarchi , Bahar , Mehfil & Astoria , basically the places near where i stay. Mehfil @ Narayanguda was probably the best according to my tastebuds. Not all branches give the same quality but the one at Narayanguda is the main branch.
It was 4 people bringing haleems from different places. This is possibly my haleem season done. Unless I decide to go for a friendās iftar party.
Cool. I too had all those places along with Paradise and Bombay hotel (Ranigunj). Next target is 555 cafe, heard they too have good haleem. Worst experience was Sarvi. They served something called special haleem with boiled egg and topped with cream. Absolute nonsense. Who the fuck serves haleem with egg and cream
555 serves with chicken 65 pieces. And if you are going all the way there , there are Peshawar, Chichas , Shahi Dastarkhwan on the way from Lakdikapul to Cafe 555 at Masab Tank Flyover. Hyderabad House has reopened with a branch in Secbad , That should be good as well.
Thereās one place in Secunderabad called Grill 9 in Kharkhana i believe. Itās been unbelievably hyped (esp in the foodies groups of hyd in facebook). They serve with zabaan etc etc as well , but that place is frankly shit. Hope you didnāt try that.
A lesser known but good haleem place is Hy-Line in Abids. Iām not sure whether the pandemic shut them down but they are very very well known for their haleem. Itās on the Taj Mahal hotel road to St Josephās school , the junction in between.
Thanks for the ideas. Friends are planning to have haleem followed by Mandi at Barkas. Mostly around the weekend. Will let you know how it goes.
Havenāt been to Barkas before (Mostly cause of the reputation of the area there) , but they do serve some good food from what my friends tell me.
The best mandi you can get in Hyderabad. I have been a couple of times before lockdown. Worth it. Tried a couple of outlets in Mehndipatnam and HiTech City but its wasnāt a great experience. Maybe works for tourists/families but not for locals/stag.
Itās not very surprising to find the LFC India thread is all about food
Buddy, if you come to Hyderabad anytime just let me know. I will make sure have the best food (kabab, biryani etc) you ever had.
The funny thing is that the best food in here is actually of Iranian origin.
Never been a huge fan of Mandi. Prefer having shikampuri , pathar ka gosht etc etc though. For that, thereās the charminar area/tolichowki area for me.
Hyderabad is probably one of the main cuisine centers in India , and nothing much to do in Hyderabad except to decide where to go and have good food.
Iāve travelled across India and only Old Delhi (imo) comes close to the non vegetarian food esp at Ramzan times. Havenāt been to lucknow so canāt comment on that.
Itās Iranian in origin but highly influenced by various other cuisines and spices etc. Thatās what makes it unique.
A big pity is that there are no proper Lukhmiās around anymore. I used to love those square kheema samosas that were made.
Yeah, miss those these days. But if I crave for a good tea and pyaz samosa, i head to Blue Sea near Secunderabad Station.
Blue Sea gives such good memories. Itās too bad that Iām right now having to be on a health-watch , but I do make it a point to go to Blue Sea whenever I go near Secbad station.
Also the Chaat at CTC/Park Lane junctionā¦ that is one awesome place too.
