I just know that when we play person x (who is a first team starter) and he gets injured, people here would be asking Jurgen why person x was playing in the first place in a meaningless match…
… Like when Jota got injured last season (last match vs Midtjylland) when he was scoring for fun and suddenly he’s another one on the injury list.
Well we have given AC Milan a huge gift by making sure two of AM’s main players are suspended. It’s up to them to take advantage.
As for us, it’s obviously going to be a blend of senior squad players, with about 2 junior squad players. This is not the Kangaroo cup, which we will also be winning btw. I actually think Morton will start because he will have Thiago there to impart his years of game experience which Morton will benefit from.
Seems Bradley and Beck will not feature tonight, since both of them played for U-19s v. Porto U-19s and won 4-0
I don’t like the idea of a full change in team for this.
Injuries are consideration but a balance must be found. We would reduce the number of injuries if Klopp trained and played with less intensity, but would that benefit us in the points column? I’m gonna say no.
Games like this should be a good opportunity for Tsimikas to build on his impressive season, for Chamberlain to keep improving and for Henderson, Milner, Thiago and maybe Robertson to get some minutes into the legs.
Some changes should be obvious - Konate and Minamino must surely play if fit. Maybe Origi and Neco too.
I expect a strong-ish Liverpool side tonight and an open game. Hopefully there’ll be plenty of goals once again and some good stress free wednesday night entertainment.
Up the reds.
Alisson
Trent Konate Matip Kostas
Ox Hendo Thiago
Salah Taki Mane
That’s my guess. Won’t be as many changes as people think, maybe a few doing halves each with an eye to getting minutes in the legs of Milner, Neco etc.
Team should have been released, normally 2hrs before CL game and 1hr before PL game.
IMO we are getting into the congested part of the schedule. Need to rest anyone we can. These games are meaningless, may as well be the Caraboa cup or w/e it’s called. Trot out the B team and youngsters.
We’ll see if Matip can start on Saturday as well, or it would be too much for him.
Origi on bench? Why???
Why risk Ox and Matip???
Thanks!
Morton, told you so, neener, neener neener.
I like the side, makes sense. 2 “rookies”, rest top squad or first teamers.
Seems irresponsible to start Salah and Mane and leave Origi on the bench. Hope Jurgen doesn’t have cause to regret it.
I would definitely have given Kelleher a game too.
Pfft, they can rest during AFCON.
So just Naby and Harvey not fit. Looking better.
I suspect Konate and Van Dijk play on Saturday if Matip plays today.
Maybe because he’s not ready to start?
Origi probably comes on second half?
Good to see Jota fit enough to make the bench.
While we crushed Arsenal in the second half, there have been indications of Liverpool not yet being in high quality match form in previous games (i.e. playing very good in consecutive games). I would guess Klopp wants to play them into top form. Perhaps I am being too defensive with Klopp though, I understand the issues of course. But he is a man of his word usually, and he has said earlier that he won’t field reserve teams in the Champions League due to the status and nature of that tournament. I believe there is also 2.5 million sterling at risk ?
But maybe it is a bad call and you and the other’s who think this is a very bad idea are right. I am just highlighting possible reasons.
Mane and Salah might simply be in better shape than Origi thus it’s safer for them to start (yeah, I know the consequences of Origi getting injured aren’t as severe). I don’t know why every selection is always second guessed, Klopp always has his eyes on the sports science side of things.
As for Ox, he’s started about 4 games this season hasn’t he? Surely it’s more beneficial for him to be playing when his confidence is up than sitting on the bench.
It’s a good team for me - enough changes but strong enough to win a Champions League game in front of a sold out Anfield.
Fine with the line up.
Origi was injured hence prob why only on bench.
5 subs - get the main boys off early 2md half.
Good mix. Let’s just hope that they all see it through without injury.
