Liverpool vs Real Madrid| CL Round of 16| Tuesday 21st February, 20:00 | Anfield

This lot always seem to get one over us. I want the lads to beat them, but I can’t see it. Ancelotti seems to know every game plan of Liverpool.
They are (in)famous for acting on the pitch in front of the referee and time wasting. Our boys are too nice to them. I would love Robbo to give one of them a ‘Glasgow kiss’.

We would need a miracle to win this match.

As a believer in Gomez, I can not stand by your initial sentence/paragraph. He was far from faultless against Everton and there was more than one marginal positional error against Newcastle.

That being said, I have a memory longer than the last season or so and so I agree that some peoples opinions are absurd.
I rate Gomez. He comes across as a very grounded person, very honest. He has great physical attributes/abilities but unfortunately it hasn’t worked for him recently. I may be in the minority here but to sell him for approx £20m and then try and replace him is a waste of time unless it was financially related.
Some people have short memories.

I think it will be a narrow loss tomorrow, then I think we will lose by more goals in Madrid. I don’t think they will allow us to play our game and while we have two victories now in a row, we haven’t been world beaters and they have a stronger team than we do.

I hope we will win 4-0 and then I hope we will win or draw in Madrid and proceed to the next round.

we will win this 6-1 and the in the return leg, they will go 7-0 up and then we will score with 3 diving headers in the91st, 92nd and 95th minute to go through to the next round.

Its neither Madrid’s team nor our form that worries me. Its Ancelotti who I fear the most. He seems to be the only manager who has found the way to stiffle a Klopps team.

I don’t think its going to be a 11 vs 11 battle that decides the 2-legged tie. Its going to be one of the two managerial greats who have the last laugh. Hoping that it is going to be Jurgen this time

Spot on, except the diving headers will be bicycle kicks.

Reading the last comments feels like Real Madrid have utterly dominated us when in reality they’ve been abnormally lucky against us.

In Kiev we were playing with a concussed goalkeeper and our best player out after the first 30 minutes.

Two years later, we were in the midst of one of the worst injury crises ever with literally no senior CBs and the return leg in an empty Anfield.

In May we hit the post, we have all the possession, all the chances and we end up losing because their goalkeeper put in one of the best performances in the history of European finals.

Now we once again face them at a wrong time and they are the favourites but we do have a decent chance. Margins are so small, anything could happen to turn the tide in our favour. God knows, we are due for some luck against them.

I’m with you Maria, I will be totally surprised if we go true to the next round, their midfield is so much better than ours.

On the slightly positive side of things:

  • Kroos and Tchouameni out of this match
  • Their defence is not great this season
  • Current dip in form

I’m sure we can win this by a 3-1 margin. It’s up to the players to carry our recent form into this match.

What about our form, beating those bottom dwellers Everton and Newcastle who played with 10 man while having chance after chance. Remember Bercker were our MotM …

I don’t remember them dominating us, we have been the better team on most occasions but we fail to put our chances away and then people praise Carlo and say hes got the measure of Klopp when in fact they been the luckiest bastards in football.

Them 4 saves yeah. How many did their keeper make

Thats not the point, the point is how can we give away so many chances against 10 man. Real will bring Vinícius Júnior, Benzema, Valverde/Asensio.

They will murder us given the chance.

You just don’t understand Anfield on European nights.:rofl::rofl:

If we take form, if we take their reputation, if you take all logic and then predict…Madrid win.

If you take Anfield, if you take Europe, if you take justice… Liverpool win.

They are owed. The assault on Salah, the arrogance in Paris, the sheer monolithic cuntism of that club.
Fuck them, hammer them into the Anfield turf. Make those arrogant cheating cunts pay.

Brian House Children’s Hospice if we’re out.

It’s always possible that your expectations could be exceeded.

If we get some sort of result, then great. If not then we learn where we need to improve - even if that is just that we need a new midfield.

If in alternate reality the Newcastle GK decided not to get himself sent off and instead stayed on his line, then its Salah one on one with the keeper. I don’t care what sort of scoring form Salah is in. I’m backing him every day of the week in that situation and twice on Sundays. At 3 nil, the game would be literally over. When a team is 3-0 down, unless its a knockout game, then teams are going to go into damage limitation mode. Game over. Newcastle away. First team to win there this season. First team in 10 months to come away from there with a clean sheet.

I really am surprised the Newcastle game is actually being used as a stick to beat the players with.

I’m not at all suggesting we are in the greatest of form, but if I dreamed of my ideal scenario from the two PL games prior to the RM match, then those performances would have surpassed my expectations. That might mean I have low expectations, but I am more thinking about comparing to what came before.

We have something to take into the RM game. Nothing more or less.

If Pope used his feet instead of his head/hands the ball would have ended up in the stands.
