What we don’t need is playing Everton on March 17. We must win this game so Everton gets pushed out by a few weeks. If we are losing 1 player to injury per game, the Everton game will double that.
The theory is that a hybrid of kids and 3-4 seniors (such as Tsimikas (90’), Konate (60’) and Diaz (30’) could get past this lost. We need to win this and then do what Mascot said, which is not worry about the FA Cup this season.
I disagree. If we are going to fob the cup off, then it would be best to let the kids have the game and get it over and done with. If we win this game, then we are 3 games from winning the bastard cup so why would we throw it away then?
I’ll never say no to the FA Cup, but my focus is on what’s going to happen on March 17 if we have to play Everton with several of our senior players out. We can’t afford to drop points in the league, so delaying this is a good thing. Then what happens happens in the FAC.
Time to prioritize. PL is the most important competition, then it is the EL and finally FA Cup. We have 13 players injured and missing till now /hopefully not Endo, but he left the stadium on crutches/. VvD played 120 miunutes, keep him away from this match. Same is valid for Diaz, Konate, MacAllister /looked totally jaded yesterday and at the moment he is our only fit senior midfielder/.
Kelleher needs matches, the more he plays, the better he will get. Bradley, Gomez and Quansah are obvious choices.
On Wednesday we will need experience, both Tsimikas and Robbo have not played that much this season and both of them did not play the full match yesterday. The Greek warriror looks like the better option for left midfielder in my opinion, plus experience will be vital. Gakpo needs to step up, he could play as a number 10 behind yound Danns. Clarke and McConnell will be the double pivot. And Gordon to get 55-60 minutes on the right side of midfield.
Harvey played 120 minutes, but he is young boy, he will recover and this season he is not a regular starter, so I will keep him on the bench as a decent option. Nunez, Salah and Szoboszlai should not be risked, the league is the most important competition we have left.
Hyping up a possible quadruple did not help two years ago and it won’t help this season. It’s too early.
Yesterday was great and the kids might be able to help at home against Southampton but especially for the league we need senior players back and we need to be lucky with injuries from now on.
While we’re getting in the results we’re not dominating and with the players we’re missing long term it’s very fragile.
I’m sure we can enjoy the ride even if we ban the q-word
Well I thought this was a league game, so I was finding it strange that everyone was requesting a starting 11 full of just kids. I need to read thread titles better.
Agree that Diaz should absolutely not play on this one. If he hasn’t played the full 120, and he wasn’t having a problem with his groin late in the game, then just maybe he could be playing.
I’m not against a few seniors though. Konate is probably not necessary though with Gomez and Quansah available, though I’d definitely have him on the bench.
