Phew, real danger man there.
I wonder if this means Alisson, Adrian, or even more tantalisingly, Jaros.
I was just about to post this. I thought Adrian was only available as a break glass option for this competition.
Alisson or Jaros? I think it depends on how many other fringe players we are starting with. Iād be tempted to give Jaros a shot but I wouldnāt want to start him with an already makeshift defence.
Iād much rather Jaros start than Adrian but I expect itāll be the Spaniard.
I hope itās Alisson frankly.
Iād prefer it to be Jaros. Whatās the point in having promising youngsters if they never get any game time?
Iām not sure itāll be a makeshift defence, would it? We have everyone back in defence, so itās literally players who would have had significant experience playing with each other already. Iād imagine it would be Gomez, KonatĆ©, Quansah, and Tsimikas across the backline (with potentially Matip in for one of the two central defenders).
Also, at Anfield, so Iād imagine it would be a much better place for him to make his debut.
I want us to qualify so we can bin it off until March not have to play another round and go to the final game day.
Rather have Alisson in and keep it 0-0 than have Jaros in and send our players who really need a rest to chase it.
So youāre assuming Jaros is so crap heās going to gift USG a goal or two?
If that were the case, he wouldnāt be on our books.
He also wouldnāt be 4th choice behind Adrian if he was good.
Goalkeeping is simply not an area I would take a chance. If anything he probably should have been on the bench against Leicester and he wasnāt.
I think that says more about Kloppās (and, to be fair, most managersā) inherent conservatism when it comes to bringing players off the bench than it does about Jarosā ability.
Forgot about that, so itās Alisson, Jaros, Mrozek, or Pitaluga.
Last time I saw Jaros play regularly he by far the best young goalkeeper Iād seen at this club - head and shoulders above Kelleher - but admittedly that was several years ago now and he had two fairly significant injuries since then including head and arm injuries.
Adrian is not in the EL squad.
Either Alisson/Jaros/Pitaluga
Well spotted. I see that Mrozek is also included amongst our goalkeepers.
Hereās the full squad, in case anyone needs to refresh their memory:
I reckon he goes with Ali and plays it safe,
Mrozek is good, but only played like 45 minutes of a pre season game last year. Doubt he is trusted.
Jaros is good, had a bit of experience so far but seems to have stagnated if Iām being harsh. Too much of a jump imo for an EL game, only got 45 mins of a pre season game.
Pitgula has a massive jump from non league experience, trains always with the first team so knows the system well, but could be a bit soon for first team (needs to fill out). Only played 15 mins of a pre season with the senior lads.
Shame for Kelleher, seems to struggle with injuries even though this was a collision injury. Always happens at the wrong times for him.
We dodged that bullet ā¦
If itās any of the young goalkeepers then it has to be Jaros. Heās miles better than Pitaluga or Mrozek. I donāt really get the Pitaluga hype, I guess it started because Alisson said he is good, but heās been a big disappointment for me. Sometimes I think he couldnāt save a word document, never mind a football.
Heās young and will hopefully continue to improve but Jaros was better at the same age and has gone on to play real professional football since then. He may not be the talent I once hoped he was going to be but heās done far more to earn a place in the team than Pitaluga or Mrozek.
Having said all that I donāt think itās any of them, Alisson will probably start.
Adrian is not in, yeah. Both Alisson and Jaros were on the bench in Linz. Iām expecting Alisson tonight and then Kelleher to continue for the rest of the group stage games.
