Luis DIAZ: 2023/24

Fingers crossed for the lad.

Whenever he feels like playing again is up to him but having his mum and dad back safe and well is beyond any concerns we have on the pitch.

This is actually a more worrisome development. I had thought it was an amateurish version of the ā€˜commercial kidnappingsā€™ that plague Colombia, Diazā€™ parents targeted because he could pay. In that scenario, the risk is poor operations, where the payment/exchange goes wrong somehow or the kidnappers panic.

This introduces a whole new risk. A fragile ceasefire and a decentralized organization targeting a high-profile family - if a faction inside the ELN wanted to take down the ceasefire, this incident could do it. Fingers crossed for the next few days.

Klopp says he is training again, probably if only to stay active and keep his mind on something else for some of the time.

If he feels heā€™s good, then maybe include him on the bench in one of the next two games (or league games).

Klopp on Luis Diaz

"We will see how he is and then go from there. If he feels right, he will be will us. You can see he didnā€™t sleep a lot. The news from Colombia gives us a bit of hope. Itā€™s up to him, if he makes himself available or not.

Looks like the Colombian players may refuse to play their game against Brazil on the 16th if heā€™s not released.

Imagine.

Still be some numpty pundit backing them up. Anyhow hopefully his dad is released soon and he is given leave on the international break to go see them.

Gotta love the FA. Even when they do the right thing they manage it in a way that makes them look like twats.

Nothing surprises me anymore after I saw Mata booked once for going to celebrate with fans, like hugging them, etc.

What are we turning this sport into, some robotic shit. Creating problems where there arenā€™t any. Putting different things in one basket because itā€™s easier that way. Lazy.

A sportwash for hydrocarbon cunts.

That shirt thing is the most baffling rule Iā€™ve ever come across.

Iā€™m not sure I even buy it being about money men.

The only thing Iā€™ve heard that makes sense is the the sponsors want their logo associated with goal celebrations. Iā€™m sure they do, but thatā€™s surely for clubs to sort out with their players.

To be honest, Iā€™m not a fan of cluttering referees headspace (which appears to be limited) with bullshit procedural nonsense that is nothing to do with football.

Iā€™d do away with the idea of referees punishing shirt removal, diving/simulation, waving imaginary yellows. The refs have enough on their plate already.

Yup I dislike the other stuff but itā€™s already done selectively.

It was a blanket ban to avoid ā€˜politicalā€™ or corporate messages. Since this would require nuance, discretion and wisdom to properly police, they instead shat the bed and banned everything including human torso. To be fair, if they actually were as consistent in other areas of referreeing the game things would actually be much better.

Thatā€™s what lead to this Getafe monstrosity:

I oddly donā€™t think thatā€™s actually a bookable offence.

Anyhow wouldnā€™t want Dom covering his face
