Greg Maddox is my favorite pitcher of all time. Watching the clips from the MLB Network documentary has only solidified that. I watched him throw a complete game shutout in 1 hr and 55 min throwing under 100 pitches. Brilliant player.
The problem is you cannot expect pitchers to all of a sudden develop a Maddux like approach when the guys in the majors today have been selected for a completely different set of traits. If talent is identified by evaluation of velocity and spin rate rather than theur ability to get batters out, theyâre not going to be able turn to a different way of getting outs once their stats drop.
Especially difficult for a modern brute force velo pitcher to throw more intelligent when he has this wretched pitch-clock on his back. But thatâs none of my business.
Itâs a weird stat/record to get your head around. There have only been 45 or so 50 home run seasons in baseball history and the average number stolen bases those players had that season was less than 10.
Giroud threw the first pitch for the Dodgers last eve. I like Giroud, but I imagine he throws a baseball like a girl. Also, change your trousers, lad. Youâre almost 50 years old.
Braves and Mets serving up a bit of a contest here. You expect the winner of this first one wonât care in the second and thus Arizona are probably not making it.
