Marc Guehi (CB) Crystal Palace

I’m just saying that more needs to be done apart from mere symbolism. Even from footballers. Especially when you see Partey bend the knee and then be accused of the other stuff.

That if he were on the same team, he wouldn’t have to worry about facing them?

The thing is, if some people lose their shit because of a pair of rainbow laces or something, can you imagine how they would react if an actual LGBT individual was at the match.

I can see that some players who are members of certain religious communities might get it in the neck if they show support for LGBT people (or other minority groups). You would hope that they have the balls just to say that their employer doesn’t discriminate against people and leave it at that,

The Guehi thing is actually interesting because “Jesus loves you” actually points out that Christianity is fundamentally not against LGBT people. He was cautioned on it because it was a religious message. What he actually thinks is another matter, but I’d hope it was pointed out to him that it’s best to keep schtum regardless.

Guehi is a good player and I hope we sign him.

I suspect we can quickly move on an alternate late in the window if Palace won’t budge on the price, and if that happens, it strengthens my belief that we will sign Guehi either this window for a reasonable price, say £35M not £50M, or we are happy to wait until next summer and sign him in a Bosman.

There has been a lot written around the armband stuff. If we take Guehi at his word, that it was a message of love and inclusion, fine, draw a line under it and let the authorities do their job, which they did, with a warning.

My take is it is better to not ‘piggy-back’ on one campaign to insert your own messaging. That opens a door to lots of potential interpretation of motive, and even abuse. The rainbow campaign is simple, at heart. It is a message of inclusion, saying everyone is welcome to enjoy the game we all love. And specifically, given the under-representation and still closeted culture in football, it is saying to the LGBT community, have a seat at the table, with everyone else. You matter, we see you, come on in!

That’s a good thing, and should not be made more complicated than that.

It’s still being to do with Diomande’s deal with Palace I feel.

They aren’t getting that over the line.

It’s strange how it’s gone so quiet, especially given our situation regarding CBs.

Yes Indy!

its fucking brill isnt it…

I wonder if the Guehi noise will pick up after the Community Shield.

When Wirtz leaves him sitting on his arse a couple of times, the price will drop…
