Marc Guehi (CB) Crystal Palace

Did he go off injured… I turned it off when they scored a second.

According the BBC report, it was cramp.

HE was good today and mostly kept the left side of their defence solid and apart from Frimmy’s goal we didn’t create much down his side.

Yes well, Salah spent the game daydreaming so it wasn’t difficult for Guehi to keep our right side in check.

Article about this in the Grauniad today.Palace want to sell this window but we don’t want to pay the asking price (£40m). It sounds like we are stuck in a staring contest with neither prepared to blink.

Assuming that the player only wants to sign for us (and I noticed his interaction with Slot yesterday) we hold the majority of the cards.

Is that the lesser seen “Chairman’s come get him plea” by Parish.

Practically begging for a bidding war that hasn’t yet materialised this summer.

I think we would have been happy enough to pay the 40m if palace had quoted the same or near to that earlier in the window.

Under estimated the Slot draw.

Newcastle had been linked with Guehi, but they’ve just signed Thiaw from Milan so that interest looks to have ended now.

Offer £30m plus £10m if we win the league this season. Could make our 34th league game interesting.

I’m.a bit concerned at Slot’s game management from last season (when the title was already won) onwards.

Here’s hoping that he gets back to his pragmatic roots. He was brought in with a view of prioritising ball control..instead I’m seeing more of Klopp type Chaos (which isn’t necessarily a bad thing) but something that we didn’t do when we won the league. Klopp’s teams did have much more defensive organization than the last 4 months of Slot so for all the talk of Slot being pragmatic , the defense isn’t necessarily building to that.

Maybe Guehi is someone who can provide more control when building from the back. But the relative ease at which we seemed to relax, make poor choices and silly mistakes when playing the ball out from the back is in sharp contrast to how good we were under Slot for the first 2/3rds of last season.

TBH, it reminded me of what the team looked like under Paisley after we won a league (i.e. players already on holiday and not really arsed). He did provide some opportunities for not-first-chioce players.

The Paisley comparison will do me!
