Ibou is better than Guehi.
RM don’t see him as an elite CB… Getting him on a free, they see him as money in the bank, regardless of whether he spends his entire time there getting splinters in his arse from the bench.
Some footballers would do well to carry out some self assessment… instead of believing the hype that sometimes surround them, they need to ask themselves, would RM pay £50m for my skill set… The answer alone should give them a heads up…!
Wise up Ibou… sign the contract in front of ya and become a figure of folklore at Anfield
There was talk a while back of PSG being interested in him. Might Paris be his preferred destination.
I really don’t get this relaxed attitude of we’ll just pick him up on a free next summer.
We are highly unlikely to be the only club interested in him for free. It’s arrogant tbh.
Perhaps the club’s view of the player is that he’s a nice to have, not a must have?
Well, I’d love to know what the plan is then.
VVD is in the twilight of his career, and has shown signs of mortality lately.
Konate is in the last year of his contract.
Leoni has just started shaving.
Gomez is always one step from the sick bay.
A strong and stable central defence is the backbone of any successful side.
We are no better and no worse than we were last season. We have an established pair, a reliable, but injury prone third choice, and a young promising back up.
Except that everyone is a year older and therefore slower and more susceptible to injury, particularly Virgil.
Hope Ibou is watching the situation at Madrid. Even Trent in his prime years is not enough: 33yr old Carvahal is keeping him on the bench.
The grass isn’t always greener
RM are so dominant in other areas of the pitch that i think quality CBs are more likely not to care about RM not wanting to stump cash up and wait for the bosman move. It served Rudiger well. If RM don’t get Ibou they’ll turn their eye to the next poss bosman who would do fine too. Maybe a Gabriel or Saliba
Or Guehi
Leoni may turn out to be fantastic. And he may even do so this season. But with Jarrell coming off the season he had in Jurgen’s last season there is a pretty significant difference between him leason vs Leoni this as 4th choice this.
Absolutely right. And we have also replaced our young fourth center-back from last season, who is now a year older with some more experience in his legs ( I hear he’s doing well with Leverkusen so far ), with an even younger one who has zero PL experience, and only 17 appearances in Serie A.
Maybe Leoni will turn out to be a fantastic signing, but it’s a huge gamble.

I like Trent, and don’t hold any grudge against him for trying something else. But… I must admit that I like this news. ![]()
Leoni has more first team experience than Huijsen did when he signed for Bournemouth. If he’s as good as advertised then it shouldn’t be a big problem.
Leoni not in the U21 squad today so presumably has travelled wth the 1st team.

Only a gamble if we don’t sign Guehi or another in my eyes. Basically we don’t want have to rely on him this year.

Of course, if we sign Guehi, then we’ll be ok in terms of depth in these positions.
I would assume he is a first team signing in my view.
Palace seem to be making a bid for two centre backs. Certainly something in motion there.
