Marc Guehi (CB) Crystal Palace

We got Leoni tbf, attacking depth is worse imo.

We did get Leoni but who has actually seen him play. He is 18 and joining the PL.
.
I would expect him to be bedded in very slowly unless we are in dire straits.

If he does end up anywhere but here Hughes, Edwards anybody associated with the transfers. Will need to hang there head in shame after all the game playing.

This is the thing Quansah was sold because he wouldn’t get enough games to develop but someone even younger from abroad will fix an issue.

I just don’t understand why LFC haven’t headhunted you and asked you to name your price to take over our transfers… I mean you’re clearly head and shoulders above our current recruitment team.

Thanks for noticing that. The gratitude is just heart warming coming from you Richard.

In fairness to @rab he doesn’t have the time to do this FT as he has to post on here too. Unfortunately that doesn’t come with the same recognition and recompense but it’s certainly as important. TAN thanks you for your service and hopes you feel adequately rewarded with hearts and replies. No doubt @Magnus , @Bekloppt or one of the myriad other 0.01% could give you a villa or some such too as necessary.

Posting on here is my full time job. The “job” thing is more of a hobby.

At a certain point you either have a valuation for a player or you don’t.

I’m wondering what Konate is going to do. Is he going to sit tight, wind his deal down, and move to Real Madrid on a free? At which point, next summer it might be one out and one in on a free, with Guehi cancelling it out?

OR, I half wonder if the ‘exchange’ might be brought forward to the end of this window? We allow Konate to go now, as he has not signed any of the deals we have put in front of him. And for a similar sum of money, we bring Guehi in, this window?

Konate is a smashing player and I want him to sign a new deal. But if he will not, we might just get on with building our team for the future without him.

I really don’t get these Konate to Real Madrid rumours, regardless of whether it is this season or at the end of his contract. I can’t see him starting for Madrid.

Konate is a very good defender, but not an elite defender. For me, if he stays with us, he is our high quality back up to our established 2 CB’s - possibly that will be VVD and Guehi.

Ibou is better than Guehi.

RM don’t see him as an elite CB… Getting him on a free, they see him as money in the bank, regardless of whether he spends his entire time there getting splinters in his arse from the bench.
Some footballers would do well to carry out some self assessment… instead of believing the hype that sometimes surround them, they need to ask themselves, would RM pay £50m for my skill set… The answer alone should give them a heads up…!
Wise up Ibou… sign the contract in front of ya and become a figure of folklore at Anfield

There was talk a while back of PSG being interested in him. Might Paris be his preferred destination.

I really don’t get this relaxed attitude of we’ll just pick him up on a free next summer.
We are highly unlikely to be the only club interested in him for free. It’s arrogant tbh.

Perhaps the club’s view of the player is that he’s a nice to have, not a must have?

Well, I’d love to know what the plan is then.
VVD is in the twilight of his career, and has shown signs of mortality lately.
Konate is in the last year of his contract.
Leoni has just started shaving.
Gomez is always one step from the sick bay.

A strong and stable central defence is the backbone of any successful side.

We are no better and no worse than we were last season. We have an established pair, a reliable, but injury prone third choice, and a young promising back up.

Except that everyone is a year older and therefore slower and more susceptible to injury, particularly Virgil.
