Hope Ibou is watching the situation at Madrid. Even Trent in his prime years is not enough: 33yr old Carvahal is keeping him on the bench.
The grass isn’t always greener
RM are so dominant in other areas of the pitch that i think quality CBs are more likely not to care about RM not wanting to stump cash up and wait for the bosman move. It served Rudiger well. If RM don’t get Ibou they’ll turn their eye to the next poss bosman who would do fine too. Maybe a Gabriel or Saliba
Or Guehi
Leoni may turn out to be fantastic. And he may even do so this season. But with Jarrell coming off the season he had in Jurgen’s last season there is a pretty significant difference between him leason vs Leoni this as 4th choice this.
Absolutely right. And we have also replaced our young fourth center-back from last season, who is now a year older with some more experience in his legs ( I hear he’s doing well with Leverkusen so far ), with an even younger one who has zero PL experience, and only 17 appearances in Serie A.
Maybe Leoni will turn out to be a fantastic signing, but it’s a huge gamble.

I like Trent, and don’t hold any grudge against him for trying something else. But… I must admit that I like this news.
Leoni has more first team experience than Huijsen did when he signed for Bournemouth. If he’s as good as advertised then it shouldn’t be a big problem.
Leoni not in the U21 squad today so presumably has travelled wth the 1st team.

Only a gamble if we don’t sign Guehi or another in my eyes. Basically we don’t want have to rely on him this year.

Of course, if we sign Guehi, then we’ll be ok in terms of depth in these positions.
I would assume he is a first team signing in my view.
Palace seem to be making a bid for two centre backs. Certainly something in motion there.
Really hope Hughes can get this one over the line. In the best of worlds already today so he gets here becero the Arsenal game, but that’s not realistic.
Konate’s form has been far from impressive and we know his contract is up next summer. Joe is injury prone and Leoni is young/unproven in the EPL. With this in mind, just bring him in, give Palace the extra five millions.I really think we need to shore up our defensive if want to retain the title
I don’t expect any movement on this until after Palace play their 2nd leg match against Fredrikstad on Thurs.
Hopefully (unless he picks up a knock during that game), he is our player by the weekend, not that I would expect him to be involved in the match against Arsenal.
BBC reporting that Crystal Palace have made an approach to sign Manchester City defender Manuel Akanji.
Hopefully if they can bring in defensive cover we might see some movement on a deal for Guehi towards the end of the week after their European qualifier.
Also rumours of another younger 19 year old evidently looks like they are signing two as they need cover it does seem they are preparing.
I think it will start to be stepped up post the Europa tie if it’s going be stepped up.

That would be a very good move for them. Akanji is maybe not absolute top-tier starting quality (he was a permanent fixture for them during their CL+PL season, but I never understood what Pep saw in him in the first place, so I’m not too surprised that he’s not starting for them anymore), but he’s still a very good center-back, and Palace would have a lot of joy with him I reckon. He’d be a good replacement for Guehi, so this makes sense.
Also after Jaydee Canvot who is 19 at Toulouse, seems to suggest one for now and one for the future.
