Yeah that would to me be the only downside on that. I am a fan of Gomez and if he could stay fit I’d be happy for him to be counted as a CB. I wouldn’t even be interested in another.
If this is true I expect it might get done either way even as a loan, after all we were dead set against a loan on Tsimikas and then 2 days later he is going out on loan.
Some might say it would be 2 CBs and 2 in, but one of the ins is not yet 20 and has very little experience. So we should keep Joe Go and pay the asking price for Guehi. Let’s get this over and done with.
Interesting use of the word ‘currently’ in the Joyce article. The reds currently do not want to include Gomez on loan in the deal.
Obviously we are open to a permanent move, and I would go with the valuation Kopstar suggests above, Gomez + £10M, something like that. I think Gomez is a smashing player, but it’s the fitness innit. Hence the valuation.
On the Palace side they get an experienced and excellent player, but obviously they are well aware of his fitness record, hence their desire for a loan, not an outright purchase.
I suspect a deal will be done at £30M plus Gomez loan for a season.
I would be ok with that, but would prefer a sale. I don’t think Palace can afford to make a mistake though, and if Gomez breaks down and they are £25M into the deal, that is a lot for them.
We’ve one right back out with an injury and another coming back from injury. Gomez could be vital this season in providing some cover there especially if Frimpong really is being considered as an option to cover Salah.
Unless he pushes for it, and in a world cup year with a very weak England back line it’s possible he might want to play more, then I’d be keeping him.
I think Leoni is an unknown factor for most of us. I’d rather he were fifth choice and have chance to settle but maybe Slot and co think he’s ready to compete now.
