Spain’s transfer window closes after ours…
Smartass!
I think we’re perfectly comfortable telling clubs to do one.
Maybe tell them we need to get about 4 more defenders in and we haven’t replaced Agger from 8 years ago.
I’d be more concerned about the player.
If Guehi comes in it won’t be as a back-up, and Konate won’t be happy if he’s deposed.
We need four options, so not everyone will play every week.
If Konate wanted to leave we would have to sell him because you can’t keep a player who wants to leave. Well thats what so many said about Diaz.
That isnt the argument about Diaz though and so of course the situation seems silly if you present only the bad arguments.
I posted on another thread that I think we agreed with Palace in July to let him stay until the end of the month in return for a discount. We’ll find out tomorrow.
At the time so many pushed that thought pattern. The sale of Diaz made no sense then and even less now.
It makes a lot of sense considering we didn’t want to give him the contract he wanted, and we’re generally sound to players
Diaz made noises everytime about wanting to join barcelona.
We might not have signed someoone to replace Diaz. But Diaz was getting to be 28 and was clearly not going to be the main guy. Makes sense replacing him with someone younger. It might be Rio or it might be a later signing
The Diaz move was not about giving a player what they want so that we can maintain our reputation. It was about us making decisions on when was the best time for us to move on from a player we decided was not worth the money to extend - did we want to get the value from his performances or from a sale?. We took the decision that was in our interests. The only dubious thing about it is the lack of replacement, but it’s pretty clear what we’re trying to do there.
Diaz had some great moments for us. A lot of them infact. But he was very frustrating to watch at times as well. Let’s not put Diaz into the bracket as if he was irreplaceable at Liverpool. He’s not Mo.
We might not want a replacement for Diaz. Especially with Chiesa/ Rio to deputize for Gakpo.
Always felt the left was overly supplied, I really didn’t think Diaz was much centrally. The right still seems very light.
He still had 2 years left on his contract we didn’t need to rush and do anything.
The right still seems very light.
We’re better on the right if we use Frimpong / Chiesa during AFCON. Compared to last year.
9 goals centrally isn’t doing nothing.
He still had 2 years left on his contract we didn’t need to rush and do anything.
The amount is too good to refuse.
Anyway, if we match the goal scoring (across the players) of last season, Our decidion to sell Diaz would be vindicated.
There are now rumors that Marc might play for Palace tonight. So, a transfer is probably off the cards, and Glasner seems to have gotten his way. Anything else would surprise me. But you never know.
Well Hugo currently has three.
