With Glasner saying to potential replacements ‘I might not play you’, I think it’s quite clear where the blame lies.
That is massively undermining to the club, who simply cannot afford to have players worth 60-70m run down their contracts. And the only reason for Glasner to dig his heels in like this is to keep his squad together so he can keep his stock high and get the move he wants.
There was no potential replacement, that’s kinda the point.
& again, who are we to tell other clubs what their financial position is? Clearly they’re not backed in a corner where they HAD to sell, are they under PSR restraints? Nope. They’ve just missed out on millions more by being refused into the EL.
Glasner picked Guehi in both their European games, as well as the Villa game…alarm bells should’ve been ringing, Glasner never had any doubt Guehi would leave as the conditions of his sale wasn’t met.
They agreed a deal, then pulled out of it. It’s not Liverpools fault that Palace fucked up with replacing him. The dogs in the street knew Liverpool were bidding, so Palace had weeks to organise a replacement. They should have issued hands off, or honoured the deal.
I wonder if Guehi, and Palace, will issue a statement at some point. One way or another the questions will be asked and a response (scripted or otherwise) expressed.
Is Leoni not the plan B? (More of a safety net than plan B)
I know the level is very different but if Palace had flat out said no two weeks ago and then we’d gone and got Leoni instead I think there’d be more excitement around him.
Would have liked Guehi but he wasn’t a critical signing after we got Leoni.
He’s their player so the choice belongs to them but I think once they allowed him go for the medical they should have seen the deal through, not necessarily for us but for the player who acted professionally and respectfully right up till this point,
We had two distinct parts of the window. One where were supremely effective and got impressive shit done early and without fuss, and then this second bit iover the past month and a bit. Both clubs we ended up in protracted situations with spent a period of this year going through tumultuous executive level shake ups with uncertainty over who is calling the shots at the football club and who was acting as the DoF. Maybe there is a lesson in there somewhere about picking your negotiating partner well…or maybe only do that when its a player you think you can afford to be patient on.
