Marc Guehi (CB) Crystal Palace

And lets not forget that Glasner has just cost his employer £35M.

I can only imagine how much shit I would be in at work if I cost my company £35M

In a way, Parish didn’t really have any choice. Either lose the club captain and manager overnight, or keep both, but miss out on £35m.

It’s really frustrating from our point of view, as beyond VVD, we have Konate, who is struggling for form, Gomez who is rebuilding his fitness after another lengthy lay-off last season, and Leoni, an 18 year old from Italy with less than 30 senior games to his name.

I do think we’ll go back in for him in January, provided Guehi makes it clear to them he wants to make the move then, regardless of Palace’s status in Europe and domestically. Palace basically have 6 months to find someone else too.

I do have some sympathy for Parish, as I believe Glasner held a gun to his head, by threatening to walk. I predict Glasner won’t be at Palace next season.

He will walk first chance he gets and you know what he will say. Palace fans may think he’s looking after the good of the club but I feel he is looking after himself.

Once it got to the stage it did it should have gone through. If the stuff with the other lad is right and it was playing time he mentioned then he’s a joke. I am not sure it helps him in future eithier with other owners. Though some are just idiots.

Clearly, Glasner is a cunt of the highest order. He reminds you of those superiors who will no doubt push you to die for him. He is the dirtbag that everybody dislikes, the typical office shark.

Im excited by the project at man united and shared my vision with jim and the players and they feel we can turn the corner if we trust the process ?

Get him in early, let him get used to the set up, style of play, environment, so he’s flying at the start of next season.

Will benefit him and us a lot if he comes in Jan, especially if we end up losing Ibou.

It is just sad that some Palace fans cannot see through it. Every bit of money counts especially for Crystal Palace who wants to make it to the UEL/UCL and grow from there.

They fucked up when NUFC called calling 2 years ago with a huge ass bid but Guehi didn’t want to go there. And they fucked it up again this time with a club that Guehi wants to go…

Probably makes sense to just keep this open, it’s no secret we still want to sign him and will probably come back in to do so at the earliest opportunity. In the meantime, people will want to discuss the move, so…

Personally I’m looking at this as something similar to when we signed VVD in that we were sure that we’d done the deal but in the end there was an issue and it couldn’t be completed in the summer.

The issue is the fitness problems with Gomez and Konate. If we can have between now and January with at least one of them fit to play beside VVD then great. If not then we’re basically in the same place as the start of last season only we’ve now got Leoni instead of Quansah. It became crystal clear that Slot wasn’t a fan of Quansah so if the two previously mentioned players can stay relatively fit then I’m not sure what difference it will make.

As for going back for Guehi in the winter window instead of waiting to get him on a free in the summer I would say that last year we did seem a bit jaded at times in the later stages of the season. Getting Guehi in January might help that situation. The more options we have when we get to the knockout stages of the CL the better in my opinion.

This has been on my mind since the news about Guehi staying broke. I can’t imagine Guehi being there past the end of this season (hopefully he joins Liverpool as early as January) but I can imagine Glasner staying there even less, especially looking at their financial constraints.

Just one point before I step away from this topic - This whole episode has left Glasner looking like a difficult person to work with. He’s pissed off his chairman and his captain. It probably won’t put Man U off, they have a history of appointing awkward customers, but it might give other future employers pause for thought.
Ok, I’m out of this thread. See you in January.

a dressing room containing Glasner, Fernandes, Maguire, Cunha and Rashford - what’s the worst that can happen?

All the blood fulltime when they all attack each other in in the anfield away dressing room after they lose 10-0? Poor cleaners having to clean up after them…

Can we keep a temporary lock in this thread ? We can reopen this in December if need be.

The conversation is going in circles now. Every one’s had their piece to say.

According to Wiki information, when Chelsea sold Guehi to CP in a past life, they inserted certain buy back conditions or a sell on percentage retainer.
It might be Chelsea that come back in for him at some point..!
Whatever happens, we have 4months to form a contingency plan

Surprised to see the criticism being levelled at Glasner. I understand we’re all a bit frustrated, but he has done the best possible thing for Crystal Palace, which is his remit as their manager.

Putting Parish in a position where he has to choose between no Glasner and Guehi or keeping both has resulted in Palaces team being much stronger for the next 6 months/entire season. No wonder the Palace fans are happy.

Disagree with the assessment that he’s difficult to work with as well. Earlier in the window it was clear one of Guehi or Eze would go, and he was ok with losing one of them, just not both. He clearly understands that a club like palace will have a revolving door of talent, just that you can’t shove it all out in one window - entirely reasonable from him. His job isn’t to pander Parish’s money making desire, it’s to do the best possible job he can with Palace and he is actively fighting to maintain the conditions where he can do that. At Frankfurt likewise it wasn’t that they needed to sell that annoyed him but how much they sold in one go. He’s not stupid, he knows that ins and outs are part and parcel of building up a club - he just wants it done in a more measured way than Frankfurt did kr Palace tried. Fair play to him.

Honestly I have more respect for him over how he’s done this. I think if it wasn’t us who missed out Guehi, but Chelsea or City, we’d all be unified in praise of his strong conviction over maintaining some continuity with his squad and prioritising his clubs chances.

As for the mercenary comments, I don’t think he’d be fighting this hard to keep a core player if he was thinking of immediately fucking off for the next job offer. Obviously if something like arsenal or Bayern came in for him I’d see him going, but I don’t think he’ll bin off palace for just anywhere.

Has he though?

He knew a minimum 5-6 weeks ago that Guehi was not willing to sign a new deal and that this is really the last window they can cash in on him, having a confirmed offer of £35M. Does refusing to sell Guehi and keep him for an extra 12 months and lose him for nothing beat and injection of £35M cash into the club which could probably really use that amount of cash?
