Post match: Arsenal v Liverpool (EPL 27/10/24 4.30pm)

I would have taken a draw before the game but with their defence after the injuries I’m disappointed we didn’t take all three points, we don’t control midfield in many games and today was no different, MacAllister had a poor game and no surprise he was subbed off, Nunez deserves credit he gets involved all over the pitch and a beautiful assist. City the winners today.

I’d just like to congratulate Arsenal on earning a magnificent point despite being down to 5 fit 1st team players.
They are a credit to the game, as is their manager, and always play the game in the right spirit.
However, Gary Neville is a complete and utter cunt.

Good point away from home to a likely title challenger. Arteta has been there a while and has spent a lot of money, and they will be up there. To go and claim a point away from home, in the circumstances, is very much a point won.

They were better first half and we had so many out of sorts, and it looked like we were getting overrun a bit. We dug deep and responded second half. They were spoilers in the second half - going over, time wasting and so on - and it took all rhythm out of the second half. I can’t respect that sort of crap from such a big team, with so much going for them.

It is to our enormous credit that we got the equalizer, and with a fair wind a 3-2 win wasn’t completely out of the question as we were the better team as the game wore on, but it wasn’t to be.

All in all a good point.

They’re such a negative team. Today was similar to when they played City. Go 2-1 up and then park the bus, fake injuries and time waste. They’ll never win the league playing like that. The days of Mourinho-esque performances winning trophies are long gone

On one hand, one point might prove valuable down the road. On the other, considering their absences it could also be a lost opportunity to get all three.

We did ourselves a disservice with the first half. Too timid, too sloppy, too open. They were all over us, largely because we allowed them to be. Second half, we pushed up, we were more compact and organised. Put some good moves together and came away with a great goal with Slot’s subs making a telling difference.

I genuinely hope that Robertson isn’t fully fit. Because if he is, he’s starting to resemble Fabinho and Henderson in their last season. He was a liability and it was painful to watch.

Van Dijk though is still going strong. Thank fuck for that. Really liked Nunez’s game as well. Not just for the assist for Salah’s goal, but how he’s helping out wherever is needed. He is starting to look like a different, much better player.

I have been thinking along similar lines for a bit but wasn’t sure whether it was the system or the legs - ultimately, I guess it does not matter

A point at Arsenal is always a good result. They are a very good team. So much for those pundits claiming we haven’t played any difficult teams. 4 point from Arsenal and Chelsea. Great results.

Personally it’s not every game so I’ll pass.

There was another full back who was pissing me off on the other side where he sent 3 none arsed passes straight to Arsenal within about 5 mins of each other.

Arsenal’s second half was to piss us off and deny us an equaliser they ultimately failed.

Agree, but it is just my (distant) opinion - so not that important.

Wild take to expect we would control the midfield away from home against a title challenger.

Hmm, not sure whether to be happy we didn’t lose or annoyed we didn’t win.
Don’t think I want to watch the first half.

Didn’t we have more players absent due to injury?
Neville has been pushing this narrative all week and it’s a nonsense. Glad VVD put it into perspective when asked in his post match interview.

Neville can’t grasp the wheels haven’t fallen off since Klopp left thats what is eating away at him.

Saliba and Odegaard are probably Arsenal’s two most important players. Honestly, they are probably their only two who would get into a combined XI between our teams without much disagreement. Even with Saka eventually playing, these are big loses to go into such a key game missing, and I dont think any of our absences are as big a miss given the quality of who can come in. It is part of the story. But it’s also part of premier league football so its not like they get extra points for making it through without them.

I mentioned in match and it is something that Arsenal has done to us in the last few games against us, they press on an angle allowing the ball to go to our left, they then press Virg so he is on his left side with an outlet pass to Robbo, who isn’t the best in possession. It is a regular tactic for them against us because our left centre back is right footed and Kelleher is also right footed so even if the ball is played back to him it is his weaker side.

It is something the coaches need to look at.

More of a wild take to think the 6 times and 19 times winners should get bossed in midfield, maybe you support Neverton. Ha ha ha.

Was Souness or Gerard playing today?

He’s one sad little rat, kept going on about Virgil for first goal and Trents passing even after that pass to Darwin.
